🧭 Before you start

Fits: platform code 6N1

  • Special tools named: 3297, V.A.G 1331, torque wrench

Don't miss

  • Mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt if it is to be reused.
  • When installing used poly V-belts observe the direction of rotation marked on removal! When fitting belt, ensure that poly V-belt seats correctly in pulleys!
  • Push alternator down at least 3 times onto stop with tensioning lever3297 to ensure the alternator moves freely.
  • When tightening keep to the sequence given, do not use the alternator for support and do not touch poly V-belt.

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. Mark direction of rotation of poly V-belt if it is to be reused.
  2. Loosen alternator securing bolts at least one turn.
  3. Fit tensioning lever3297, secure with pin (arrow) and pivot alternator downwards (to operate tensioning lever 3297, use e.g. torque wrench V.A.G 1331).
  4. Remove poly V-belt. [Note: When installing used poly V-belts observe the direction of rotation marked on removal! When fitting belt, ensure that poly V-belt seats correctly in pulleys!]

  1. Lower alternator with tensioning lever3297 and place poly V-belt on alternator pulley.
  2. Push alternator down at least 3 times onto stop with tensioning lever3297 to ensure the alternator moves freely.
  3. After fitting poly V-belt, and with alternator loose, rotate engine several times (approx. 10 revolutions of engine), to do this operate starter briefly, but do not start engine. [Note: When tightening keep to the sequence given, do not use the alternator for support and do not touch poly V-belt.]
  4. Tighten alternator lower securing bolt first and then upper securing bolt to 25 Nm. — 25 Nm (18 lb-ft)
  5. Start engine and check belt running.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
