Timing belt replacement: Seat Inca 1.4 (AUA)

Step-by-step timing belt replacement for the Seat Inca 1.4 (AUA): 70 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Timing belt work on the SEAT Inca van with the 1.4 16V AUA engine. This engine runs a main toothed belt and a separate camshaft drive belt, each with its own tensioner, so both are dealt with in the same job. The engine cover, air filter and inlet hose, ancillary drive belt and crankshaft pulley come off, followed by the lower timing cover and an idler pulley. Check the timing marks before anything is removed and keep them in view throughout. The tensioners are the critical part: each is turned anti-clockwise until both of its marks align, and the belts must not be bent, twisted or stretched while they are off the engine. The crankshaft pulley and its bolt are renewed rather than reused.

70 steps 1 engine code

🧭 Before you start

Remove the engine cover, air filter, ancillary belt, crankshaft pulley, lower timing cover and idler pulley, having checked the timing marks first. Release the camshaft drive belt tensioner and the main belt tensioner and take both belts off. Refit the belts, turning each tensioner anti-clockwise until both marks align, and secure the toothed belt gearwheel with the bolt and two washers as described. Remove the camshaft locking tool, check the timing marks, then refit the lower cover, a new crankshaft pulley and bolt, the ancillary belt and the air filter.

Fits: VW Jetta VI (16, 2010–2018); platform code 1.4

  • Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
  • Special tools named: locking tool
  • Renewed: pulley

Don't miss

  • Check the timing marks before removing the timing belt, not after.
  • Turn each tensioner anti-clockwise until both marks align; the camshaft drive belt tensioner is set separately.
  • Handle belts without bending, twisting or pulling them.
  • Renew the crankshaft pulley and its securing bolt.
  • Inspect the tensioner and idler pulleys and renew any that are worn or noisy.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
