Topping up oil in Haldex coupling — AUDI
Topping up oil in Haldex coupling on Audi: 13 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012)
Don't miss
- IMPORTANT: Place a cloth on the cross member (arrows).Any oil which may reach the cross member or the grooves on the cross member must be removed carefully.
- Please make sure that valve (arrow) is closed.
- When Haldex coupling is filled correctly oil will emerge at adapter (A).
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) | Screw in oil filler plug (1) and tighten |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Position drip tray underneath. [Note: IMPORTANT: Place a cloth on the cross member (arrows).Any oil which may reach the cross member or the grooves on the cross member must be removed carefully.]
- Unscrew oil filler plug (arrow). (For illustration purposes here shown with final drive removed.)
- Separate adapter (A) and elbow joint (B).
- Screw adapter (A) in onto stop.
- Connect elbow joint (B) and adapter (A), making sure they engage.
- Route hose above drive shaft.
- Please make sure that valve (arrow) is closed.
- Screw oil reservoir (A) onto charging device for Haldex couplingVAS 6291.
- Now open valve (arrow) and hold oil reservoir as shown in illustration. [Note: When Haldex coupling is filled correctly oil will emerge at adapter (A).]
- Once the oil has started to emerge place the oil reservoir e.g. onto a workshop trolley BELOW the Haldex coupling.
- Remove charging deviceVAS 6291 as soon as oil stops flowing back into the reservoir.
- Then check oil level in Haldex coupling .
- Screw in plug (arrow) with new seal and tighten.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
