📋 Procedure

ADW
The throttle valve potentiometer for vehicles with manual gearbox has a 3-way connector The Digifant control unit is supplied with the following information

Throttle valve closed
- Fuel shut off on overrun
-Idling speed stabilisation
-Ignition timing at idling speed (DIS-function)

Throttle valve fully open.
-Fuel quantity injected for full throttle enrichment

The throttle valve potentiometer for vehicles with automatic gearbox has a 4-way connector. Testing the throttle valve potentiometer

Special tools, testers and auxiliary equipment required

Hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526 or V.A.G 1526 A
Fault reader V.A.G 1551 (or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552) with wire V.A.G 1551/1
Adapter set V.A.G 1594 A
Test box V.A.G 1598/18

Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select the engine electronics control unit using "Address word" 01. Engine must not be running.

If the specified values are not obtained:

Continue the test according to the table:

Display value · Possible causes of fault · Continue with
Remains at 0,0 <owhen throttle valve fully open and at full throttle · Open circuit or short circuit to earth caused by: / Throttle valve potentiometer, wiring, Digifant control unit · Test A / => Page 24-88
idling greater than 75.0 <o · Short to positive through: / Throttle valve potentiometer, wiring, Digifant control unit · Test B / => Page 24-90

Test A

Pull connector off throttle valve potentiometer.

Use the auxiliary wires from V.A.G 1594 A. to bridge contacts 2 and 1 in the connector of the throttle valve potentiometer.

If the readout rises to more than 75.0 <o:

Switch off ignition.
Renew throttle valve potentiometer.
Interrogate fault memory and erase it => Page
01-8
.

If the readout remains at 0.0 <o:

With the ignition switched off, connect test box V.A.G 1598/18 to connector for engine control unit => Page
24-16
.

Test for open circuit and short to earth/positive or earth in the following wiring connections:

Connector / of -G69 / Contact · Test box V.A.G 1598/18 / / Socket
1 · 41 (positive)
2 · 40 (signal)
3 · 35 (earth)

Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.
If the wiring is OK, fit a new Digifant control unit => Page
24-18
.
Interrogate fault memory and erase it => Page
01-8
.

Notes:

After replacing the Digifant control unit , it is necessary to adapt the control unit and throttle valve potentiometer to each other => Page

Test B

Pull connector off throttle valve potentiometer.

If the readout drops to 0.0 <o:

Switch off ignition.
Renew throttle valve potentiometer.
Interrogate fault memory and erase it => Page
01-8
.

If the readout remains at more than 75.0 <o:

With the ignition switched off, connect test box V.A.G 1598/18 to connector for engine control unit => Page

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
