📋 Procedure

Special tools and workshop equipment required

V.A.G 1526 A

V.A.G 1594 A

Fitting location: On underside of throttle valve assembly -item
25-10

Notes:

This test is only to be performed if a corresponding fault is listed in the fault memory of the automatic gearbox 097.
After working on throttle valve potentiometer, automatic gearbox control unit and throttle valve potentiometer must also be matched => Page
25-70.

Checking power supply

Unplug connector at throttle valve potentiometer.
Switch on ignition.

Connect up multimeter for voltage measurement as follows.

Connector / Contact · Measure to
1 · Engine earth
Connector contact
1 · 2
2 · 3

Specification: in each case 4.5 ... 5.5 V

If readings match specifications:

Check internal resistance of throttle valve potentiometer
=> Page
25-68.

If a reading does not match specification:

Check for open circuit and short to earth/positive in the following wiring.

Connector / / Contact · Automatic gearbox control unit -J217 / Contact
1 / 2 / 3 · => "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-finding and Fitting Locations" binder

If necessary, eliminate open circuit in wiring/short circuit.

=> "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-finding and Fitting Locations" binder

Note:

Exclusive use is to be made of gold-plated contacts when repairing contacts in connector.

Checking internal resistance

Unplug connector at throttle valve potentiometer.

Connect up multimeter for resistance measurement between contacts 1 and 2.
Specification: 1.5 ... 2.6 kω

Connect up multimeter for resistance measurement between contacts 2 and 3.
Specification: 0.75 ... 1.3 kω

Move throttle lever slowly into full throttle position.
Specification: Resistance increasing to max. 3.6 kω

If a reading does not match specification:

Replace throttle valve potentiometer.

Checking setting of throttle valve potentiometer -G69

To check setting of throttle valve potentiometer, proceed in the same manner as for checking setting of idling switch -F60 => Page
25-61.

Adjusting throttle valve potentiometer -G69

To adjust throttle valve potentiometer, proceed in the same manner as for adjusting idling switch -F60 => Page
25-62.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
