📋 Procedure

Electrical test of idling stabilisation valve -N71

Unplug connector from valve -N71.
Measure resistance between the valve contacts using V.A.G 1526.

Specification: 7.0...11.0 ohm

If the specified value is not attained, replace idling stabilisation valve -N71.

Note:

Resistance is in the lower tolerance range at room temperature and in the upper tolerance range when the engine is warm.

Mechanical test of idling stabilisation valve -N71

Unbolt valve -N71 from the engine (line remains connected).

Inspect the rotary slide for signs of scoring (visual inspection).

Note:

Do not attempt to move the rotary slide with a screwdriver or other tool to check the ease of movement.

Initiate final control diagnosis and actuate idling stabilisation valve => Page
01-58
.
Check whether rotary slide runs properly from stop to stop.
If scoring is found which impairs freedom of movement or if rotary slide does not move freely (sticking or not running from stop to stop), replace the valve.
If the valve does not respond during final control diagnosis, test actuation.

Testing actuation of idling stabilisation valve -N71

Unplug the connector from idling stabilisation valve -N71 and connect the V.A.G 1527 diode test lamp between connector contacts 1 and 2.
Initiate final control diagnosis and actuate idling stabilisation valve => Page
01-58
.

The diode test lamp should flash.

Note:

The diode lamp does not go out fully, but only becomes brighter and darker
Final control diagnosis for the idling stabilisation valve is terminated after one minute. To repeat the test, switch off the ignition for a moment and then initiate final control diagnosis again.

If the actuation of the valve is OK but the valve still does not react then the valve is mechanically stuck. Replace idling stabilisation valve -N71.

If the diode test lamp does not flash:

Connect test box V.A.G 1598/19 to wiring harness for engine control unit =>Page
24-14
.

Check wiring connection from contact 1 on connector for valve -N71 to socket D5 of the test box, as well as between contact 2 and socket D1 for open circuit or short circuit.

If the wiring connections are OK, but the valve is not actuated, renew the engine control unit => Page

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
