Testing idling speed switch — AUDI
Testing idling speed switch on Audi: factory workshop procedure for engines ACK, AGA, AGN, AHL. Full factory text, tools and checks.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the factory write-up, straight from real workshop data.
📋 Procedure
AJG ALF
Note:
Idling speed switch -F60 is located in throttle valve control part -J338.
Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. When doing this the ignition must be switched on.

Display Group 54: testing idling speed switch
Display · xxxx rpm · Text · xx <° · xx <°
Indicates · Engine speed · Operating status · Throttle valve angle · Throttle valve positioner angle
Range · min.: 700 rpm / max.: 2550 rpm · Idling / Part throttle / Full throttle / Overrun cut-off / Enrichment · min.: 1 <° / max.: 90 <° · min.: 1 <° / max.: 20 <°
Specification · 0 rpm · Idling · --- · ---
Note · Open throttle valve briefly (idling speed switch should open and close); display should change back to "Idling". / If readout does not match specification, test idling speed switch / => Page . 24-105
Electrical test of idling speed switch
Switch ignition off.
Connect test box V.A.G 1598/22 to wiring harness for engine control unit =>Page
24-21
.
Measure resistance between contacts 67 and 69 using hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526.
Specification: Continuity (throttle valve closed)
Open throttle slightly.
Specification: No continuity (idling speed switch should open)
If the specification is not attained:
Detach connector -1- from throttle valve control part -2-.
Test for open circuit in wiring between 8-pin connector and test box.
8-pin connector on wiring harness, contact · Test box V.A.G 1598/22, socket
3 · 69
7 · 67
Resistance in wiring: max. 1.5 ω
Rectify any open circuits.
Test for short circuits between wires on 8-pin connector using current flow diagram.
8-pin connector on wiring harness, contact · Test box V.A.G 1598/22, socket
7 · 69
Specification: infinity ω(open circuit)
If no wiring faults are detected:
Check the throttle valve for dirt or stiffness and clean if necessary.
Repeat adaption of throttle valve control part
=> Page
24-98
.
If the adaption of the throttle valve control part cannot be started or cannot be successfully completed:
Disengage throttle cable.
Repeat adaption of throttle valve control part
=> Page
24-98
.
If it is still not possible to start or successfully complete the adaption process, renew the throttle valve control part.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
