Display zone · Reading
1 · Disregard reading
2 · Specified engine load (after correction)
3 · Actual engine load
4 · Duty cycle (activation of solenoid valve for charge pressure control -N75)

Watch readings in display zones 2 and 3 while vehicle is accelerated at a constant rate.
Specification:
Difference between readings 2 and 3 must not be more than 0.3 ms.

Note:

If faults in the charge pressure control function are detected by the self-diagnosis of the control unit, the duty cycle (display zone 4) will be set to a constant 5 %.

Faults in charge pressure control function

Fault · Display on V.A.G 1397 A · Display on V.A.G 1551 · Possible causes of fault
Charge pressure too low · ▪ Reading below 1.370 bar / ▪ (vehicles with manual gearbox) / ▪ Reading below 1.300 bar / ▪ (vehicles with automatic gearbox) · ▪ Actual engine load (display zone 3) less than specified engine load (display zone 2) / ▪ Duty cycle (display zone 4) tends towards 99% · - Solenoid valve for charge pressure control -N75 defective / - Wiring to solenoid valve for charge pressure control defective / - Charge pressure regulating valve in turbocharger jammed in open position / - Leaks between turbocharger and intake manifold / - Turbocharger defective
Charge pressure too high 1) · ▪ Reading above 1.470 bar / ▪ (vehicles with manual gearbox) / ▪ Reading above 1.400 bar / ▪ (vehicles with automatic gearbox) · ▪ Actual engine load (display zone 3) higher than specified engine load (display zone 2) / ▪ Duty cycle (display zone 4) tends towards 0% · - Pressure unit for charge pressure regulating valve defective / - Hoses to pressure unit for charge pressure regulating valve (via -N75) leaking / - Charge pressure regulating valve in turbocharger jammed in closed position

1)
If the charge pressure is too high the fuel supply will be interrupted in order to protect the engine. This results in misfiring at high engine speeds.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
