Servicing subframe - Audi A1 quattro — AUDI

Servicing subframe - Audi A1 quattro on Audi: 48 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This covers renewing the bonded rubber bushes in the rear subframe of the Audi A1 quattro (platform code 8X, 2010–2018). The bushes are pressed, so the subframe has to come down: wheels, coil springs, rear silencer, anti-roll bar and track rods come off, the wiring between axle and body is unplugged and the brake line clip is released without opening the line. With the subframe position fixed by locating pins, it is lowered 100 mm on a gearbox jack and the bush is pulled out hydraulically. Two things matter: marking the old bush position before extraction, and fitting the new one with its lug and plate perpendicular to the direction of travel, pressed until the collar is flush.

48 steps

🧭 Before you start

Strip the rear axle of wheels, springs, silencer, anti-roll bar and track rods, release the brake line clip and fix the subframe position with locating pins before lowering it 100 mm. Mark the bush position, extract it with the hydraulic puller and clear the old bush from the tube in a vice. Press the new bush in with lug, plate and thrust piece square to the direction of travel until the collar is flush, then remove the pins and rebuild the axle.

Fits: Audi A1 (8X, 2010–2018)

Don't miss

  • Do not disconnect the brake line; only remove its clip so the subframe can drop.
  • Fit the locating pins to fix subframe position before lowering, so axle geometry is kept.
  • Mark the old bush against the subframe with a felt-tip pen before pulling it.
  • Expect a loud bang as the outer ring shears off during extraction; that is normal.
  • Lug, plate and the flat side of the thrust piece must all be perpendicular to the direction of travel.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
