Removing undamaged side window: Audi A4 B6/B7
Step-by-step removing undamaged side window for the Audi A4 B6/B7: 23 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Taking a bonded rear side window out intact on the A4 B6/B7 (8E) is a cutting job, not an unbolting one. The steps reference the D-pillar and the luggage compartment trim, so this is the Avant quarter glass. Interior trim comes off first: luggage compartment side trim, D-pillar, the panel above the window and the C-pillar trim, which pulls forward off the glass. Outside, the lower trim strip is unhooked from its retaining springs and released from the roof strip, and the paint under the window is masked. The adhesive bead is pierced with a trimming needle, cutting wire is threaded through, and the bead is cut out section by section with the reel and guide rollers before the glass is lifted with a double suction lifter. The roof trim strip is what goes wrong: bend it even slightly and it must be renewed.
🧭 Before you start
The inside is stripped first: luggage compartment side trim, D-pillar, the trim above the window and the C-pillar trim. The outer trim strip is pulled out of its springs and the paint is masked, then the adhesive bead is pierced and the cutting wire pulled through to the inside with the trimming needle. The wire is anchored at the belt guide bracket and worked around the glass with the reel and guide rollers, starting at the C-pillar and the bottom edge. The freed window is lifted out with a double suction lifter.

Don't miss
- Safety goggles and leather gloves throughout; the wire and the glass edges cut.
- Mask the paint under the window and on the side panel before touching the trim strip.
- A roof trim strip that is even slightly bent is scrap; renew it.
- Press the cutting wire towards the body while cutting so it does not ride into the glass.
- Start cutting at the C-pillar and the bottom of the window, then move the reel on.

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
