Removing camshafts and re-installing used camshafts, cylinder bank 2 (left-side) — AUDI

Removing camshafts and re-installing used camshafts, cylinder bank 2 (left-side) on Audi: 20 steps, engines CDUC, CDUD, CGQB, CKVB.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A6/A7 C7 (4G, 2011–2018)

  • Timing position: the crankshaft or camshaft is set and locked during this job
  • Special tools named: T40311/1

Don't miss

  • With the cable ties it is possible to detach the camshafts together with the camshaft bearings. This prevents components from being interchanged.
  • Make sure you do not damage the roller rocker fingers and hydraulic compensation elements when removing the camshafts.
  • The cable ties help to keep the camshafts and camshaft bearings straight when they are tightened.

📋 Procedure

  1. Remove timing chain from inlet camshaft .
  2. Check "“TDC”" position of camshafts:
  3. Place camshaft fitting tool T40096 on teeth of inlet camshaft so that the two arms of the tool engage on the two halves of the gear (one in each half, as shown in illustration).
  4. Tighten the clamping tool using the knurled wheel so that the faces of the gear teeth are in alignment.
  5. Wrap one cable tie (arrows) on each side around bearing pedestal and bearing cap and secure. [Note: With the cable ties it is possible to detach the camshafts together with the camshaft bearings. This prevents components from being interchanged.]

  1. Loosen bearing cap bolts in the sequence (12 ... 1). [Note: Make sure you do not damage the roller rocker fingers and hydraulic compensation elements when removing the camshafts.]
  2. Carefully detach bearing caps together with camshafts.
  3. ⚠ Do NOT interchange components!Do not release cable ties until after re-installation. — Place camshaft fitting tool T40096 on teeth of inlet camshaft so that the two arms of the tool engage on the two halves of the gear (one in each half, as shown in illustration).
  4. Tighten the clamping tool using the knurled wheel so that the faces of the gear teeth are in alignment.
  5. Fit camshafts and camshaft bearings (secured with cable ties (arrows)) on cylinder head. [Note: The cable ties help to keep the camshafts and camshaft bearings straight when they are tightened.]
  6. Check "“TDC”" position of camshafts:
  7. Check installation position of dowel sleeves:
  8. Fit bolts (1 … 12) in bearing caps.
  9. Screw locating pin T40311/1 into threaded hole (1) in line with cylinder 5, as shown in illustration.
  10. Fit setting tool T40311 onto support brackets for clamping pieces (arrows), as shown in illustration.
  11. Tighten bearing cap bolts .
  12. Detach setting tool T40311 and unscrew locating pin T40311/1.
  13. Check "“TDC”" position of camshafts:
  14. Remove camshaft fitting tool T40096.
  15. Install camshaft timing chains .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
