Removing and installing vacuum pump (V6 FSI) — AUDI

Removing and installing vacuum pump (V6 FSI) on Audi: 13 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

On the V6 FSI engines in the Audi A4 B8 (8K, 2007–2015), the A5 (8T, 2007–2016) and the A5 Cabriolet (8F), the mechanical vacuum pump is driven off the end of a camshaft, and engagement of its drive lugs is the only real catch. Engine covers come off their retaining pins, the hose clip is slackened and the vacuum hose detached without damaging it, then the flange bolts are slackened and the pump pulled out. A new seal is fitted. Before refitting, the drive lugs are turned so they line up with the slots in the camshaft; if they do not, the pump will not seat and forcing it with the bolts will break something. Check the seal is properly seated, tighten the bolts, then fit a new hose clip and refit the covers.

13 steps

🧭 Before you start

Remove the engine cover panels, slacken the hose clip and detach the vacuum hose, then remove the flange bolts and pull the pump out. Renew the seal, align the drive lugs with the camshaft slots and fit the pump, checking the seal seats. Tighten the flange bolts, fit a new hose clip and the hose, and refit the covers.

Fits: Audi A5 Cabriolet (8F), Audi A5 (8T, 2007–2016), Audi A4 B8 (8K, 2007–2015)

  • Renewed: seal

Don't miss

  • Renew the vacuum pump seal.
  • Align the drive lugs with the camshaft slots before fitting the pump.
  • Check the seal is seated correctly before tightening the flange bolts.
  • Fit a new hose clip; renew the vacuum hose if it is damaged.
  • Never pull the pump into place with the bolts if it will not seat by hand, as general practice.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
