Removing and installing refrigerant pipe (C) (from connection at reservoir to connection at air conditioner unit) — AUDI

Removing and installing refrigerant pipe (C) (from connection at reservoir to connection at air conditioner unit) on Audi: 20 steps.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

20 steps

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)

  • Opens: refrigerant (A/C)
  • Special tools named: VAS 5051

Don't miss

  • Following attachment, check the routing of the refrigerant pipes. They must be inserted in the holders provided and not make contact with other components.
  • Also heed the notes on start-up of the air conditioner after charging Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.

📋 Procedure

  1. Drain the refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
  2. Remove the front bumper cover General body repairs, exterior63.
  3. Remove the air intake unit (not necessary for example on right-hand drive vehicles and the Audi RS6).
  4. Remove the brake master cylinder and the brake servo Brake system47 (e.g. on the Audi RS6).
  5. Remove the left headlight Electrical system94.

  1. Remove the power steering hydraulic fluid reservoir Brake system48.
  2. Remove the ABS hydraulic unit Brake system45. [Note: The brake master cylinder and the brake servo have to be removed on the Audi RS6. It is therefore not necessary to take out the air intake unit on this vehicle.Depending on the engine, the coolant pipe from the heat exchanger of the air conditioner unit to the engine may also be routed through the socket (D) (e.g. on the Audi RS6).]
  3. Detach the refrigerant pipes from the connection to the air conditioner unit .
  4. Remove both brake pipes from brake master cylinder to hydraulic unit (not necessary on right-hand drive vehicles) Brake system47.
  5. Open the screw connection in the refrigerant pipe (between refrigerant pipes (A) and (B)) (removing and installing restrictor).
  6. Detach refrigerant pipe (C) from connection at reservoir .
  7. Detach socket (D) from plenum chamber front wall.
  8. Jointly remove refrigerant pipes (A) and (C).
  9. Separate refrigerant pipes (A) and (C).
  10. Moisten the O-rings slightly with refrigerant oil before fitting .
  11. Following attachment, check the routing of the refrigerant pipes. They must be inserted in the holders provided and not make contact with other components.
  12. Top up the fluids drained off and bleed the corresponding vehicle systems.
  13. Evacuate the refrigerant circuit after assembly and re-fill Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
  14. Interrogate the fault memory of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit J255 and erase any faults displayed "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
  15. Start up the air conditioner after charging the refrigerant circuit . [Note: Also heed the notes on start-up of the air conditioner after charging Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.]

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
