Removing and installing pulley - Valeo air conditioner compressor — AUDI
Removing and installing pulley - Valeo air conditioner compressor on Audi: 19 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi Q3 (8U, 2011–2018); platform code 84
- Renewed: if necessary
- Also covered elsewhere: Electronic parts catalogue
Don't miss
- If the pulley splines have become worn, bolt (B) cannot be loosened (the air conditioner compressor shaft turns with the bolt).
- If the drive plate is bonded to the air conditioner compressor shaft, press off the pulley.
- Using e.g. a thread cutter, clean threaded holes into which self-locking bolts or bolts were screwed (screwed in with locking fluid). Otherwise there is a danger of the bolts shearing off when removed again.
📋 Procedure
- Remove poly V-belt 13Cylinder block (pulley end); Removing and installing poly V-belt.
- To loosen bolt (B), hold pulley (A) in position with a commercially available strap wrench (with fabric strap). [Note: If the pulley splines have become worn, bolt (B) cannot be loosened (the air conditioner compressor shaft turns with the bolt).]
- If pulley splines are worn, unscrew bolts (C).
- Fit washer (A) with flat side facing outwards.
- Secure drive plate with washer (A) from repair set1K0 898 814 on air conditioner compressor shaft by fitting washers (B) and tightening bolts (C).
- Remove bolt (D).
- Detach washer and drive plate. [Note: If the drive plate is bonded to the air conditioner compressor shaft, press off the pulley.]
- Screw long bolts (C) through holes in drive plate (A) into pulley (D).
- Use a commercially available M8 bolt (B) (strength class min. 10.9) to press drive plate (A) off air conditioner compressor shaft; at the same time, counterhold pulley (D) with a commercially available strap wrench (with fabric strap). [Note: If the drive plate (A) has already been renewed at the workshop and the new drive plate was fixed in position on using sealant, it may be so firmly attached to the air conditioner compressor shaft that it can no longer be pressed off. In this case the air conditioner compressor must be renewed as a complete unit.]
- Remove circlip and detach pulley.
- Check splines of drive shaft (B) of air conditioner compressor and splines of drive plate (C) for wear and renew if necessary.
- ⚠ Do not use compressed air when cleaning; blowing out could cause dirt particles to settle on the seal of the air conditioner compressor shaft and damage it. — Use a commercially available cleaning solution to remove rust, abrasion, old adhesive and other particles from splines of air conditioner compressor drive shaft (B), pulley (A) and splines of drive plate (C).
- Using e.g. a thread cutter, clean threaded holes into which self-locking bolts or bolts were screwed (screwed in with locking fluid). Otherwise there is a danger of the bolts shearing off when removed again.
- Using wire brush, clean threads of bolts screwed in with locking fluid.
- Attach pulley to air conditioner compressor drive shaft and fit circlip.
- Apply thin coat of sealant to splines of air conditioner compressor drive shaft (B) and splines of drive plate (C). For sealant, refer to Electronic parts catalogue. [Note: Make sure sealant does not come into contact with the seal for the air conditioner compressor drive shaft (in the air conditioner compressor). The sealant is also an adhesive. After it has dried, the drive plate can no longer be detached. After applying the sealant, the drive plate must be fitted within 5 minutes and the bolts tightened to the specified torque.]
- Slide drive plate onto air conditioner compressor drive shaft.
- Tighten bolts (B and C) to torque.
- ⚠ Risk of irreparable damage to air conditioner compressor. After fitting the drive plate, wait 1 hour before starting the engine to ensure that the sealant has the necessary strength. — Install poly V-belt 13Cylinder block (pulley end); Removing and installing poly V-belt.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
