Removing and installing particulate filter - vehicles with manual gearbox — AUDI

Removing and installing particulate filter - vehicles with manual gearbox on Audi: 33 steps, engines AVB, AVF, AWX, BKE.

Pulling the diesel particulate filter on manual-gearbox cars with the Audi A4 B6/B7 (8E) and 8H platform codes means working from the top first, then underneath. The engine cover, air ducts, air cleaner housing and coolant expansion tank come out of the way, along with the air pipe, the G506 temperature sender connector and exhaust gas pressure sensor G450. With the top nuts off and the bottom one only backed off, the front exhaust pipe, the right-hand drive shaft and the exhaust bracket are removed so the filter can drop out. What matters most is fresh gaskets and self-locking nuts, a stress-free exhaust on refit, and the ash mass calibration after a new filter.

33 steps 18 engine codes engine codes merged from 3 documented variants

🧭 Before you start

Clear the engine bay: engine cover, air ducts, air cleaner housing, expansion tank and air pipe. Free the G506 connector and move G450 aside on its hoses. Undo the two upper turbo-to-filter nuts and slacken the lower one, then from below remove the front pipe, unbolt the right drive shaft and the pipe bracket, spin the last nut off and lower the filter. Refit with new gaskets and nuts, align the exhaust free of stress and run the adaption.

Fits: Audi A4 Cabriolet B6/B7 (8H), Audi A4 B6/B7 (8E)

  • Renewed: gaskets

Don't miss

  • Loosen the bottom filter nut only a few turns at first so the filter cannot fall when the pipe comes off.
  • Renew the gaskets and self-locking nuts between turbocharger and particulate filter.
  • Charge air hoses and connections must be free of oil and grease; plug-in connector clips must engage audibly.
  • After fitting a new filter, run the particulate filter ash mass calibration in Guided Functions.
  • Align the exhaust system so it sits free of stress before final tightening.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
