Removing and installing loudspeakers (Bang & Olufsen): Audi A8 D3

Step-by-step removing and installing loudspeakers (Bang & Olufsen) for the Audi A8 D3: 13 steps, 3 torque figures.

The Bang & Olufsen system in the Audi A8 D3 (4E) carries its subwoofer R157 and the rear mid-range loudspeakers R105 in the rear shelf, so every variant of this job starts with the shelf coming out. After that it is quick: unplug the subwoofer and remove its bolts to lift it away, or work from underneath the shelf to free the mid-range speaker, either on its own or together with its holding ring and cover. Two things matter. The fixings are small and go into plastic, so the low tightening values are real limits, not suggestions. And the shelf has to go back without trapping or straining speaker leads, or you will chase a rattle or an intermittent channel afterwards.

🧭 Before you start

Remove the rear shelf. For the subwoofer, unplug it, remove the bolts and lift it off the shelf. For a rear mid-range speaker, unscrew it from the underside of the shelf and detach it with its wire, or on the ring-mounted version unbolt the ring and remove speaker, ring and cover. Refit in reverse to the stated torques and reinstall the shelf.

Fits: Audi A8 D3 (4E, 2002–2010)

Don't miss

  • Subwoofer R157 bolts: 2 Nm.
  • Mid-range speaker R105 and its holding ring bolts: 3 Nm.
  • Unplug the subwoofer connector before lifting it from the shelf.
  • Route speaker wiring so it isn't trapped when the rear shelf goes back in.
  • Check every channel plays cleanly before refitting the last trim.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
