Removing and installing heat exchanger housing (complete) — AUDI
Removing and installing heat exchanger housing (complete) on Audi: 16 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: platform codes 2EA, 2ED, 2EH, 2EX, 2EB, 2EE, 2EK, 2FC, 2FF, 2FL, 2FZ, 2FG, 2FM
- Renewed: if necessary
Don't miss
- Before installing the foam underlay (1) and the seal around the roof air conditioning system (2), check for damage and ensure seal is seated correctly. Renew if necessary.
- Before installing, clean contact surface for seal (3) on vehicle roof.
📋 Procedure
- ⚠ Danger from escaping pressurised refrigerant!Freezing of skin and other body parts.Extract refrigerant and then immediately open refrigerant circuit. If the refrigerant was extracted more than 10 minutes before the opening of refrigerant circuit, the refrigerant must be extracted again. The pressure in the circuit will increase due to subsequent evaporation. — Extract refrigerant from refrigerant circuit, e.g. with air conditioning service stationVAS 6007A (or later model). [Note: Releasing refrigerant into the environment is a punishable offence. All components of the refrigerant circuit which have been opened must be sealed with suitable plugs to prevent moisture intrusion. The roof air conditioning system is lowered from the roof as a complete unit.]
- Remove front trim panel with air vent
- Remove trim panel for heat exchanger housing
- Remove rear trim panel with air vent
- Remove centre trim panel with air vent
- Separate electrical connections (1) on heat exchanger housing.
- Remove insulation/seal (2) from block connection of refrigerant lines on heat exchanger housing. [Note: The insulation/seal of the refrigerant lines (2) must be restored after successful repair. It serves to prevent condensation forming on the components and dripping into the vehicle on the inside.A suitable material for restoring the insulation/seal can be found in the Parts catalogue.]
- Unscrew nuts (4) of refrigerant lines (3) and separate refrigerant lines from expansion valve.
- Loosen front condensation drainage hose (2) on heat exchanger housing.
- Detach rear condensation drainage hose (3) on heat exchanger housing and unclip condensation drainage hose out of brackets (4).
- Unscrew screws (1) around assembly frame of heat exchanger.
- Remove assembly frame (2) in (direction of arrow) from heat exchanger housing (1).
- Take down complete heat exchanger housing (2) in (direction of arrow) from top of vehicle roof (1). [Note: Before installing the foam underlay (1) and the seal around the roof air conditioning system (2), check for damage and ensure seal is seated correctly. Renew if necessary.]
- Before installing, clean contact surface for seal (3) on vehicle roof.
- Insert roof air conditioning system (3) from above in roof aperture.
- Install assembly frame (2) in (direction of arrow) and tighten bolts (4) in diagonal sequence around it.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
