Removing and installing glove box — AUDI
Removing and installing glove box on Audi: 18 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Audi used the same glove box design across many models, and this procedure covers the 8L A3 (1996–2003), the 8P A3 (2003–2012), the 8E A4 B6/B7, the 4F A6 C6 (2004–2011), the 4E A8 D3 and several older platforms listed below, in 22 variants. The sequence is familiar: battery earth wire off, the right-hand dash panel end trim out, the CD changer out of the glove box, then the bolts at the front edge, rear edge and sides before the connector is unplugged and the box lifted away. The parts that catch people out are the static discharge before unplugging the connector, and the wiring harness that has to be transferred to a new glove box exactly as it was routed, which is why the steps say to photograph it first.
🧭 Before you start
The job starts with the ignition off and the battery earth wire disconnected. The right-hand dash panel end trim and the CD changer come out, then the single bolt, the three bolts under the front edge, the two at the rear edge and the last bolt are removed while the box is supported. After discharging static on the door striker plate, the connector is unplugged and the glove box lifted out. If the box is being replaced, its wiring harness is photographed, removed and refitted in the same routing, the box is reworked for the passenger airbag deactivation switch E224, and the connectors are pushed home until they click.
Fits: Audi A4 Cabriolet B6/B7 (8H), Audi A2 (8Z), Audi A3 (8L, 1996–2003), Audi A4 B5 (8D), Audi A4 B6/B7 (8E), Audi A6 C5 (4B), Audi A8 D2 (4D), Audi A8 D3 (4E, 2002–2010), Audi A3 (8P, 2003–2012), Audi TT Mk1 (8N), Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)
Don't miss
- Touch the door striker plate to discharge static before unplugging the glove box connector.
- Support the glove box before the rear-edge bolts come out; it drops once they are free.
- Photograph or sketch the harness routing before stripping it from the old box; route the new one identically.
- A new glove box needs reworking for the passenger airbag key switch E224 and its harness secured in the clips.
- Every connector must engage audibly before the trim goes back.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
