Removing and installing exhaust gas recirculation valve N18 with exhaust gas recirculation potentiometer G212 — AUDI

Removing and installing exhaust gas recirculation valve N18 with exhaust gas recirculation potentiometer G212 on Audi: 23 steps, engines ALZ, AUA, AVU.

Removing the exhaust gas recirculation valve N18, together with its potentiometer G212, on the platform codes listed below; the page covers a wide spread of engine variants. The valve sits behind the intake side under the scuttle, so most of the work is access. The wiper arms, bonnet seal and cowl panel grille come off, then the fresh air duct, the resonator and air duct, the air mass meter connection and the crankcase breather non-return valve. The throttle valve module J338 is unbolted and moved aside with its coolant hoses still attached, the EGR pipe bolts are removed, the charcoal filter hose disconnected and the intake manifold support taken off before the valve comes free. The cowl panel grille cracks easily, so ease it out with soapy water at the windscreen edge.

🧭 Before you start

Remove the wiper arms, washer hose, cowl seal and cowl panel grille, then the fresh air duct, resonator and intake air duct. Unplug and detach the air mass meter G70 connection, move the throttle valve module J338 aside without opening its coolant hoses, and remove the EGR pipe bolts, charcoal filter hose and intake manifold support. Unplug and lift out the EGR valve N18 with potentiometer G212. Fit with new seals and gaskets and original-type hose clips, then reinstall the throttle module and fresh air duct.

Fits: Audi A2 (8Z)

  • Renewed: seals

Don't miss

  • Use soap solution at the windscreen joint and lift the cowl grille vertically to avoid cracking it.
  • Leave the throttle module coolant hoses connected; just move J338 aside.
  • Renew all seals and gaskets on the EGR valve and pipe.
  • Refit hoses with the same type of clips as original equipment.
  • Clear any stored EGR or air mass faults with a scan tool after the job, as general practice.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
