Removing and installing door: Audi A8 D4

Step-by-step removing and installing door for the Audi A8 D4: 22 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to check.

Removing a front door on these cars is not the usual pull-the-pins job, because the vehicles carry an emergency exit system with jettison bolts in the hinges. This page merges several variants under the platform codes listed below. Before anything else, the key switch for emergency exit system E239 must not be ON and the key must be out, otherwise the door detaches when the interior handle is pulled. The mounting panel, outer seal, trim and B-pillar connectors come off, then the outer door panel and the gas strut. The door is hung on a lifting strap from workshop hoist VAS 6100 before the hinge bolts are taken out. The jettison bolts themselves are never touched. Refitting is done without the outer panel first, so the door can be adjusted before the skin goes back on.

🧭 Before you start

Check E239 is not set to ON, remove the key, then strip the mounting panel, outer door seal, trim and B-pillar connectors. Take off the outer door panel and detach the gas strut from its ball stud. Mask the window and frame, thread the lifting strap through the door cassette, hang it on the VAS 6100 hoist and pre-tension it. Remove the B-pillar reinforcement bolts and hinge bolts, never the jettison bolts, and lift the door away. Refit and adjust the door bare, with bolt (5) tightened first to 32 Nm, apply new sealing tape to the cassette, then fit and adjust the outer door panel.

Fits: Audi A8 D4 (4H, 2010–2017)

Don't miss

  • E239 must not be ON and the key must be out, or the door releases from the interior handle.
  • Never unscrew the jettison bolts on the hinge side; that work needs trained staff and Product Support.
  • Cover the paint and both sides of the window around the strap; the inner glass scratches very easily.
  • Tighten bolt (5) first, to 32 Nm, when the door goes back on.
  • Adjust the door without the outer panel before refitting and adjusting the panel itself.
  • Fit new sealing tape to the door cassette before the outer door panel goes on.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
