Removing and installing cylinder head cover, bank 1 (right-side) — AUDI
Removing and installing cylinder head cover, bank 1 (right-side) on Audi: 31 steps, engines CRTC, CRTD, CRTE, CRTF.
Removing the right-side cylinder head cover, bank 1, on the V6 TDI in the Audi A6/A7 C7 2011–2018 (4G) means taking the fuel system off the top of that bank first. The high-pressure rail and injectors come out, then Hall sender G40, the vacuum hose, the bracket with differential pressure sender G505, the crankcase breather hose, intake connecting pipe, lifting eye and right-side coolant pipe are cleared after clamping its hoses. With the glow plugs unplugged, the cover bolts and nuts are slackened from 11 down to 1. Refit is where it goes wrong: angle-tightened bolts and O-rings are renewed, the camshaft bearing torque checked, and sealant applied at the head-to-timing-cover joints on spotless surfaces.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the engine cover, rear noise insulation, rail and injectors. Clear G40, the vacuum hose, G505 bracket, breather hose, intake connecting pipe, lifting eye and right-side coolant pipe, then unplug the glow plugs and slacken the cover fasteners in sequence 11 to 1. Clean the faces, apply sealant at the joints to the timing chain cover, fit the cover with new bolts, refit injectors and rail, and leak-check the fuel system.
Fits: Audi A6/A7 C7 (4G, 2011–2018)
- Special tools named: 3094
- Renewed: o-rings
Don't miss
- Slacken the cover bolts and nuts in sequence 11 to 1.
- Renew bolts tightened with a specified angle, and the O-rings; renew the gasket if damaged.
- Check camshaft tightening torque while the cover is off.
- Apply sealant only at the head-to-timing-cover joints, nozzle cut to about 2 mm, within its use-by date.
- Check the fuel system for leaks after refitting the rail and injectors.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
