Removing and installing cowl panel trim — AUDI
Removing and installing cowl panel trim on Audi: 9 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
The cowl panel trim on the R8 2007–2015 (42) bridges the windscreen base and the front luggage compartment, and it is trapped by more than its own fasteners. The bumper cover trim, the headlight trims and both wheel housing liners come off first, then the wiper arms. After the quick-release fasteners are undone, the trim is lifted vertically out of the windscreen surround, starting at the glass edge with a little soap solution so the rubber lip does not tear. The gas struts for the front lid have to be disengaged at the bottom, by lifting the retaining spring and pulling each strut off its ball-head pin, before the trim can be drawn rearwards out of the retaining slot in the luggage compartment pan. Soap solution on the surround again makes pressing it back in far easier.
🧭 Before you start
Access is the bumper cover trim, headlight trims, wheel housing liners on both sides and the wiper arms. The quick-release fasteners are undone, the trim is lifted vertically out of the windscreen surround from the glass edge with soap solution, the front lid gas struts are unclipped from their ball-head pins at the bottom, and the trim is pulled rearwards out of the luggage compartment pan slot. Refitting reverses this, with soap solution applied to the windscreen surround to press the trim home.
Fits: platform code 42

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
