Removing and installing cover and padding for lightweight rear seat bench — AUDI
Removing and installing cover and padding for lightweight rear seat bench on Audi: 11 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
This is a trim-shop job on the lightweight rear seat bench for the platform code listed below: separating the cover and padding from the seat mount and fitting them again with fresh staples. With the bench out of the car, staples 3 are released from the seat mount, the padding and cover are lifted off together, then staples 5 are pinched off to separate the cover. Reassembly uses upholstery stapler V.A.G 1634 or an equivalent tool with commercially available staples. The longitudinal rods are pushed back as far as the first transverse rod for room, and the transverse rods are stapled before the longitudinal rods. Stapling in that order is what pulls the cover tight and square without wrinkles.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the rear seat bench, release the staples from the seat mount and lift off the padding and cover. Pinch off the staples holding the cover and separate it. Refit by stapling the transverse rods first, then the longitudinal rods, insert the seat mount into the padding, staple the cover to the mount and refit the bench.
Fits: Audi A2 (8Z)
- Renewed: staples
Don't miss
- Push the longitudinal rods back to the first transverse rod to ease installation.
- Staple transverse rods first, then longitudinal rods.
- Use only commercially available staples specified by the stapler manufacturer.
- Old staples are removed; fit new ones on reassembly.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
