Removing and installing coolant shut-off valve
N82
Note
N82
A
is currently only fitted in the plenum chamber on the right on vehicles with certain engines (currently fitted for example on vehicles with a 1.8 and 2.0 l TFSI engine)

If vehicles with an engine for which
N82
is intended are fitted with an auxiliary heater as optional extra,
N82
is not fitted and
N279
is installed instead (a shut-off valve of a different type and with different operation)

N82
is open when not actuated to permit checking of the electrical function of the valve. This takes place at certain intervals (e.g. brief actuation for approx. 1 second on every twentieth engine start).

The method of shutting off the heating system heat exchanger from the engine coolant circuit also depends on the engine/gearbox version (with certain versions there is no shut-off, with others shut-off takes place in combination with heating or cooling of the gear oil)

Special tools and workshop equipment required
Hose clamps up to 25 mm
3094
(or commercially available pinch-off tools)
Hose clamp fitting tool
VAS 6340
Hose clip pliers
VAS 6362
Removing
Switch off the ignition.
WARNING
The cooling system is pressurised. When the engine is warm, the coolant temperature may be in excess of 90°C. Dissipate pressure and allow to cool down before performing repairs. Dissipate the pressure in the coolant circuit by opening the cap at the coolant expansion tank

Note
The plenum chamber cover must be intact to stop water running into the heater and air conditioning unit via the intake housing with the plenum chamber cover fitted. The plenum chamber cover must also be properly and fully engaged in the windscreen frame

If necessary, remove the combi nuts
J
(tightening torque 8 Nm) and detach the holder
K
.
Installing
Install in reverse order; paying attention to the following:
Note
As only a small quantity of coolant escapes from the coolant circuit on removing
V50
as described above, coolant runs into
N82
following installation and after removing the hose clamps (additionally open the coolant expansion tank cap).
For noise insulation, the shut-off valve
A
is attached by way of the rubber bushes
L
(with mounting bushes and packing plates), the nuts
G
and the bolts
F
to the holder
K

Check the rubber bush
L
for correct positioning in the holder
K
.
Bleed the coolant circuit

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.

Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
