Removing and installing condenser: Audi A6 C6
Step-by-step removing and installing condenser for the Audi A6 C6: 21 steps, 2 torque figures. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A6 C6 (4F, 2004–2011)
- Opens: refrigerant (A/C)
- Special tools named: VAS 5051
Don't miss
- Remove the bolts (arrows) to take out the air ducts.
- Item (4) is the connector for the refrigerant pressure/temperature sender G395
- The Audi RS6 is fitted with a smaller condenser. Screw out the bolts (arrows) here.
- Following attachment, check the routing of the refrigerant pipes. They must be inserted in the holders provided and not make contact with other components.
- Also heed the notes on start-up of the air conditioner after charging Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 6 Nm (4.4 lb-ft) | Tighten bolts (arrows) |
| 7.5 Nm (5.5 lb-ft) | ⚠ Danger from refrigerant escaping under pressure!Freezing of skin and other body parts |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Drain the refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
- Remove the front bumper cover and the mount for the bumper cover (A)General body repairs, exterior63.
- Remove the two air ducts (B) and (C). [Note: Remove the bolts (arrows) to take out the air ducts.]
- Remove the upper radiator (e.g. on the Audi RS6, not fitted on all models) Engine, mechanics10.
- On the Audi RS6 additionally unfasten the hose clamp (1) and detach the right coolant hose.
- Detach the air ducts (2) and (3) (e.g. on the Audi RS6, not fitted on all models). [Note: Item (4) is the connector for the refrigerant pressure/temperature sender G395]
- If necessary, detach the power steering oil cooler (D) from the front end module (not required with all models) Running gear48.
- Unplug the connector (A) from the refrigerant pressure/temperature sender G395(B).
- Detach refrigerant pipes from condenser .
- If condenser is to be replaced, remove refrigerant pressure/temperature sender G395(B).
- Screw out the bolts (C).
- Detach the condenser (D). [Note: The Audi RS6 is fitted with a smaller condenser. Screw out the bolts (arrows) here.] [Note: There are different condenser versions depending on vehicle model Electronic parts catalogueThe condenser fitted on vehicles with a 10-cyl. TFSI engine (Audi RS6) has a smaller internal volume than the condenser with other engines. For vehicles with a 10-cyl. TFSI engine the refrigerant capacity is thus also slightly less than for other vehicles Electronic parts catalogue and Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.The condenser removed contains refrigerant oil which has to be returned to the refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.]
- Attach the condenser to the radiator.
- Attach the refrigerant pipes to the condenser .
- Following attachment, check the routing of the refrigerant pipes. They must be inserted in the holders provided and not make contact with other components.
- Re-install the components removed in reverse order (air ducts, radiator and oil cooler etc.).
- Re-install the front bumper panel (as well as the other components removed) General body repairs, exterior63.
- Evacuate refrigerant circuit after assembly and re-fill Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.
- Add coolant and bleed the coolant circuit (e.g. on the Audi RS6) Engine, mechanics19.
- Interrogate the fault memory of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit J255 and erase any faults displayed "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
- Start up the air conditioner after charging the refrigerant circuit . [Note: Also heed the notes on start-up of the air conditioner after charging Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a.]

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
