Removing and installing closure plate for bumper cover (front) — AUDI

Removing and installing closure plate for bumper cover (front) on Audi: 8 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Removing the closure plate that fills the gap at the lower corner of the front bumper cover, on the platform codes listed below. It is a short job done from under the car and through the wheel arch. The front noise insulation comes off, the front of the wheel housing liner is unfastened and pushed aside, and the central connector that sits on the plate's retainer is moved clear. Depending on equipment there may be an extra bolt, plus the main bolts, and then a catch on the plate is released so it can be pulled out towards the rear. On cars with headlight washers the fluid line runs past it and has to be moved clear. Releasing the catch rather than levering the plate keeps the clips intact.

8 steps

🧭 Before you start

Remove the front noise insulation and push the front of the wheel housing liner aside. Move the central connector clear, remove the bolts (including the extra one if fitted), release the catch and pull the closure plate out rearwards, freeing the headlight washer line if fitted. Refit in reverse.

Fits: Audi A3 (8V, 2012–2020)

Don't miss

  • Move the central connector off its retainer before unbolting the plate.
  • Check for the additional bolt fitted on some versions.
  • Release the catch on the plate rather than levering it out; it pulls out rearwards.
  • Free the headlight washer fluid line if fitted so it is not stretched.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
