Removing and installing brake caliper, floating caliper disc brake 2FNR — AUDI
Removing and installing brake caliper, floating caliper disc brake 2FNR on Audi: 26 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Removing and refitting the floating caliper of the 2FNR front disc brake on the platform codes listed below. The order here is set by the hydraulics: before the hose is opened, a bleeder bottle is attached, the bleed screw opened and a pedal depressor applied so the reservoir does not drain through the open line. Then the retaining spring is levered off, the pad wear connector separated, the hose disconnected at the body and at the caliper, the guide pins unscrewed and the caliper lifted off the carrier. On refit, the inner pad goes into the pressed-back pistons, the guide pins are tightened, the wear-indicator plug clicked home and the retaining spring refitted. Bleeding the system and pumping the pedal before driving are the two things not to skip.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the wheel, lever off the retaining spring and disconnect the pad wear indicator. Fit a bleeder bottle, apply the pedal depressor, disconnect the brake hose and unscrew the guide pins, then lift the caliper off. Refit in reverse with the inner pad in the pressed-back pistons, reconnect the hose and wear wiring, fit the spring, bleed the brakes and seat the pads on the pedal.
Fits: platform codes SF, SG
- Opens: brake fluid
- Special tools named: T50036
Don't miss
- Apply the brake pedal depressor before opening the hose so the reservoir does not empty.
- Connect the pad wear indicator plug so it engages audibly in its bracket.
- Refit the retaining spring at the bottom of the carrier first, then lever in the top tab.
- Bleed the brakes, pump the pedal firmly with the car stationary and check fluid level.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
