Removing and installing brake caliper — AUDI
Removing and installing brake caliper on Audi: 21 steps, 2 torque figures. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A5 Cabriolet (8F), Audi A5 (8T, 2007–2016), Audi A4 B8 (8K, 2007–2015)
- Special tools named: VAS 5052
Don't miss
- Switch on ignition. Release parking brake. Coding checked and rectified if necessaryEvent memory interrogated, indicated faults eliminated and memory erased.
- Do not press the footbrake or apply the electronic parking brake when the brake caliper is removed. — Carefully press brake caliper and brake carrier (with brake pads fitted) over brake disc.
- Use extension (commercially available) to tighten bottom bolt (16). Top bolt (17) can be tightened without extension. Wheel housing liner must be slightly pressed aside.
- Make sure that brake hose is properly clipped into retainer on hub carrier and securely seated. Otherwise, there is a risk that the brake hose will not remain in the retainer.
- Event memory interrogated, indicated faults eliminated and memory erased.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 14 Nm (10 lb-ft) | Fit brake line to brake caliper |
| 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) | Secure brake caliper to brake carrier with new self-locking bolts |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
