Removing and installing backrest cover and padding - Kongsberg multi-contour seat — AUDI
Removing and installing backrest cover and padding - Kongsberg multi-contour seat on Audi: 22 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check.
Stripping the backrest cover and padding from a Kongsberg multi-contour front seat on the Audi A6/A7 C7 (2011–2018). This is a bench job: the seat comes out and goes on a seat repair stand, and before that the side airbag rules apply, since the airbag sits in a pouch sewn into the cover. Head restraint, backrest cover panel, backrest fan and, where fitted, the Rear Seat Entertainment mounting come off first, then the backrest itself. The cover is unhooked from the frame, the side airbag is unbolted and slid down out of its pouch, and the pneumatic lines to the massage cushions are disconnected at the valve blocks on both sides. What decides the refit is marking each pneumatic line to its valve-block port before it is separated.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the head restraint, discharge static and observe the pyrotechnic rules, then mount the seat on a repair stand. Take off the backrest cover panel, fan and backrest, unhook the cover piping and hooks from the frame, and unbolt the side airbag so it slides down out of its pouch. Mark and disconnect the massage-cushion lines at both valve blocks, free the piping and bellows, and lift off cover and padding together.
Fits: Audi A6/A7 C7 (4G, 2011–2018)
Don't miss
- Discharge static by touching the door striker before handling the side airbag or its connector.
- Mark every pneumatic line against its valve-block port with a waterproof pen before disconnecting.
- Release the lines by pressing the release ring towards the valve block while pulling the line.
- Re-engage the side airbag in the backrest frame once it is out of the cover pouch.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
