🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

TorqueFastener / step
6 Nm (4.4 lb-ft)Screw out the bolts (2
8.5 Nm (6.3 lb-ft)Slacken off the bolt (1

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. Switch off the ignition (and auxiliary/supplementary heater).
  2. Remove the front right wheel spoiler General body repairs, exterior66Wheel housing liner; Removing and installing front wheel housing liner.
  3. Slacken off the bolt (1) (tightening torque 8.5 Nm). — 8.5 Nm (6.3 lb-ft)
  4. Screw out the bolts (2) (tightening torque 6 Nm). — 6 Nm (4.4 lb-ft)
  5. Detach the exhaust system (3) downwards.

  1. Slide the screw-type clamp (4) onto the exhaust system (3) as shown.
  2. Fit the exhaust system (3). [Note: There are different versions of the rubber grommets (A, B) in the noise encapsulation (C).Version (B) has a slightly longer penetration for the exhaust pipe (D). On version (A) the exhaust pipe (D) ends at the penetration or projects slightly out of it (see next illustration).]
  3. The rubber grommet in the noise encapsulation (A) must be positioned in the noise insulation (B) such that there is no strain and the exhaust pipe must either end flush with the rubber grommet (A) or protrude slightly out of the rubber grommet (A).
  4. After working on the auxiliary/supplementary heater or the noise insulation, check the mouth of the exhaust pipe (C). The mouth of the exhaust pipe (C) must be fitted at right angles to the noise encapsulation (B) where it passes through the grommet (A) in the noise encapsulation (B).
  5. After fitting the noise encapsulation, check the exhaust pipe (1) and the position of the grommet (2). There must be an unimpeded flow of exhaust gas out of the auxiliary/supplementary heater. [Note: On vehicles with no auxiliary/supplementary heater, the opening in the noise encapsulation is sealed with the cap (3).The rubber grommet (B) is longer to improve the flow characteristics at the exhaust pipe when the vehicle is travelling with the auxiliary/supplementary heater running. It therefore protrudes somewhat further out of the noise insulation (C) than rubber grommet (A). The position of the exhaust pipe (D) is the same with both rubber grommets.]
  6. Re-install the components removed in reverse order/re-attach the components unfastened.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
