Removing and installing ATF pump in housing of ATF supply unit — AUDI

Fits: Audi A4 Cabriolet B6/B7 (8H), Audi A4 B5 (8D), Audi A4 B6/B7 (8E), Audi A6 C5 (4B), Audi A8 D2 (4D)

Don't miss

• Make sure that the rounded edges of the thick outer plate face friction plate (4) and not circlip (6). The contact surface for the circlip is thus increased.
• The clutch clearance must be re-adjusted if the set of plates for clutch "“C”" has been renewed.

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

1. Turn ATF supply unit upside down.
2. Remove circlip (1) and remove set of plates (2) from cylinder "“C”".
3. Press dished spring down using workshop press with mounting bracket T10289.
4. Remove split retaining ring (1).
5. Release workshop press.

6. Detach dished spring (5).
7. ⚠ Wear safety goggles. — Carefully press piston "“C”" out of ATF supply unit by applying compressed air.
8. Remove bolts (3 … 10).
9. Unscrew bolts (1) and (2) approx. 5 turns.
10. Apply TORX key with extension (1) to bolt head as illustrated.
11. Loosen the ATF supply unit by gently tapping the two bolts alternately with a plastic-headed hammer (arrow).
12. Unscrew remaining two bolts.
13. Detach housing of ATF supply unit.
14. Remove intermediate plate (5) and locating sleeve (6).
15. Remove ATF pump gears (3) and (4) from ATF pump housing (2).
16. ⚠ Before assembly, check the individual components of the ATF pump for traces of wear and damage . — Renew O-ring (1) on ATF pump housing.
17. Insert ATF pump gears (3) and (4) into ATF pump housing (2).
18. Fit intermediate plate and insert locating sleeve (6).
19. Screw guide pins T10288/4 into the two opposite bores in housing of ATF supply unit.
20. Fit housing of ATF supply unit onto ATF pump.
21. Tighten bolts on ATF pump in two stages as follows:
22. Tighten bolts to 5 Nm in sequence (1 ... 10). — 5 Nm (3.7 lb-ft)
23. Tighten bolts to 10 Nm in sequence (1 ... 10). — 10 Nm (7.4 lb-ft)
24. Renew O-rings (2) and (4) for piston "“C”"(item 3).
25. Insert piston "“C”"(item 3) into ATF supply unit (item 1) as far as stop.
26. Fit dished spring (5).
27. Press dished spring down using workshop press with mounting bracket T10289.
28. Insert split retaining ring (1).
29. Release workshop press.
30. Insert corrugated spring (2) into cylinder "“C”"(item 1).
31. Fit outer plates (3) and friction plates (4) alternately.
32. Insert thick outer plate (5). [Note: Make sure that the rounded edges of the thick outer plate face friction plate (4) and not circlip (6). The contact surface for the circlip is thus increased.]
33. Insert circlip (6). [Note: The clutch clearance must be re-adjusted if the set of plates for clutch "“C”" has been renewed.]
