Removing and installing air-intake channel on air-intake box — AUDI
Removing and installing air-intake channel on air-intake box on Audi: 10 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
On the A8 D4 (4H) the air intake channel clips to the air intake box of the front air conditioning unit, under the dash on the passenger side, and the job is mostly about getting the box out and then making the joint tight again. The front passenger seat goes fully back, the ignition is switched off and the air intake box is removed as a complete unit. On the bench the bolts come out, the catch is released and the duct lifts off the box. On assembly the lug of the box goes into the mounts of the duct and the catch is checked for a firm hold, because a loose joint there rattles once the blower runs. Finishing needs a diagnostic tester: basic setting and final control diagnosis of the air conditioner, then the Climatronic event memory read and cleared.
🧭 Before you start
Move the passenger seat back, switch off the ignition and remove the air intake box of the front air conditioning unit. Remove the bolts, release the catch and separate the intake duct from the box. On assembly, locate the lug of the box in the mounts of the duct, join the parts and check the catch holds properly. Refit everything in reverse, then run basic setting and final control diagnosis for the air conditioner in Guided Fault Finding and clear the event memory of the Climatronic control unit J255.
Fits: Audi A8 D4 (4H, 2010–2017)
Don't miss
- Check the catch between duct and box before refitting; a weak catch means noise at the joint.
- Seat the lug of the intake box in the duct mounts before pressing the parts together.
- Basic setting and final control diagnosis of the air conditioner are part of the job, not optional.
- Read and erase the Climatronic control unit J255 event memory at the end.

📋 Procedure
- Move the front right seat (front passenger's seat) as far back as it will go.
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove air-intake box Removing and installing air intake box of front air conditioning unit.
- Remove bolts (A).
- Release the catch (B) and detach the air intake duct (C) from the air intake box (D).
- Insert the lug (E) of the air intake box in the mounts of the air intake duct (C) and assemble the two components.
- Check the catch (B) between the air intake duct (C) and the air intake box (D). [Note: If the catch (A) does not provide adequate retention, noise may occur at the joint between the air intake duct (C) and the air intake box (D).]
- Re-install all parts removed in reverse order.
- Perform basic setting and final control diagnosis for the air conditioner in "“Guided Fault Finding”" mode.
- Interrogate the event recorder of the front air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit J255 and erase any faults displayed in "“Guided Fault Finding”" mode.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
