  • Mark the connectors on the control motors of the air intake box and detach Exploded view - control motors on air intake housing.
  • Mark the routing of the wiring harness (A) on the air intake box (C) (or e.g. document using photos) and detach from the air intake box Exploded view - front heater and air conditioning unit.

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

  1. Mark the routing of the wiring harness (A) on the air intake box (C) (or e.g. document using photos) and detach from the air intake box Exploded view - front heater and air conditioning unit.
  2. Unscrew bolts (B) (tightening torque 1 Nm). — 1 Nm (0.7 lb-ft)
  3. Detach air intake box (C) from evaporator housing (D) on heater and air conditioning unit Exploded view - front heater and air conditioning unit.
  4. Check the insulating mat (E) in the evaporator housing (D) of the heater and air conditioning unit for damage, dirt (odours) and correct installation.
  5. Check the connection points between the air intake box (C) and evaporator housing (D) of the heater and air conditioning unit (tongue and groove joint) for damage and coat them lightly e.g. with silicone grease to completely seal them Exploded view - front heater and air conditioning unit.
  6. Perform basic setting and final control diagnosis for the air conditioner in "“Guided Fault Finding”" mode. [Note: The control motors on this vehicle are equipped with electronics. A new control motor only learns its position at the heater and air conditioning unit in the course of basic setting and can then be activated by the front air conditioner operating and display unit E87 (all control motors are identical at present) in "“Guided Fault Finding”" mode. While you are performing the basic setting, the control motors are assigned and adapted in accordance with the series connection of the wiring. If the sequence is not as specified, the control motors will not be adapted properly and the flaps will not be controlled correctly Overview of control motors of air conditioner.]
  7. Start up air conditioner after charging refrigerant circuit Starting up air conditioner after charging refrigerant circuit. [Note: Also observe notes on starting up air conditioner after charging Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a87General notes on air conditioning systems.]
  8. Interrogate the event memory of E87 and erase any faults displayed in "“Guided Fault Finding”" mode.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
