Removing and installing air filter element (left-side), cylinder bank 2 — AUDI
Removing and installing air filter element (left-side), cylinder bank 2 on Audi: 15 steps, engines BTR, CCFA, CCFC.
On the Audi Q7 4L (2005–2015) with the BTR, CCFA and CCFC engines each bank has its own air cleaner, and this is the left-hand one feeding cylinder bank 2. The engine cover comes off, the connector and intake hose at air mass meter 2G246 are released, two clips are undone and the top section lifts away for the element to come out. The time goes into cleaning: leaves, salt and dirt out of both halves, the small water drain checked clear, the air mass meter and intake hose inspected. On refit the element must sit centred and the lid must go on straight over its sealing lip without force. A misseated lid lets unfiltered air past the meter, and a dirty or wet element can skew the air mass reading enough to cost power.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the engine cover, unplug and detach the intake hose at 2G246, release the two clips and lift off the top section. Pull the element, clean the housing and clear the water drain, and check the air mass meter and ducting for debris. Fit the new element centred in its retainer, seat the lid straight without force, close the clips and make sure the intake hose is secure.
Fits: Audi Q7 (4L, 2005–2015)
Don't miss
- Keep dirt out of the housing and air mass meter 2G246 while the element is out.
- The water drain must be clear and its hose routed straight downwards.
- Centre the element and check the sealing lip position before closing the lid.
- Use silicone-free lubricant on the intake hose and the original type of hose clips.
- Cover the intake tract with a clean cloth if you blow out the housing.

📋 Procedure
- Remove engine cover panel .
- Unplug electrical connector at air mass meter 2G246(2).
- Detach air intake hose (1) at air mass meter 2G246.
- Release the two retaining clips (3) at air cleaner housing.
- Take out air cleaner (top section).
- Pull out air filter element. [Note: Make sure no dirt gets into the air cleaner housing or air mass meter 2G246.] [Note: If the air filter element is very dirty or wet, dirt or water could reach the air mass meter 2G246 and affect the air mass value. This would lead to loss of power, since a smaller injection quantity is calculated.Always use genuine part for air filter element.Use a silicone-free lubricant when installing the intake hose.Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) Parts catalogue. To prevent malfunctions, cover all critical parts of the engine air intake tract (air mass meter, intake pipes, etc.) with a clean cloth when blowing out the air cleaner housing with compressed air.]
- Check water drain (small aperture in bottom section of air cleaner) (arrow) for dirt and other obstructions (clean if necessary). [Note: The water drain hose must be routed straight downwards.]
- Clean salt residue, dirt and leaves out of air cleaner housing (top and bottom sections); use a vacuum cleaner if necessary.
- Check for salt residue, dirt and leaves in air mass meter 2G246 and air intake hose (engine intake side).
- Check for dirt in air duct leading to air filter element.
- When installing the air filter element, check that it is properly centred in the retainer in the air cleaner (bottom section).
- Fit the top section of the air cleaner carefully on the bottom section, without using force. Make sure the top section of the air cleaner is fitted straight on the air filter element. Note position of sealing lip on air filter element (to prevent air leaks).
- Close the two retaining clips.
- Ensure secure fit of intake hose at air mass meter 2G246.
- The remaining installation steps are carried out in the reverse sequence.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
