Removing and installing air conditioner compressor (mechanically driven) - vehicles with 4-cyl. engine — AUDI

Removing and installing air conditioner compressor (mechanically driven) - vehicles with 4-cyl. engine on Audi: 13 steps.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

13 steps

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A5 (8T, 2007–2016), Audi Q5 (8R, 2008–2017), Audi A5 Cabriolet (8F), Audi A4 B8 (8K, 2007–2015); platform code 83

  • Opens: refrigerant (A/C)
  • Special tools named: VAS 5051

Don't miss

  • Before fitting poly V-belt, turn air conditioner compressor 10 times via pulley in direction of rotation (to prevent damage to compressor on initial activation).
  • Lubricate O-rings lightly with refrigerant oil before fitting .Cranking prevents damage to the air conditioner compressor, which could be caused by refrigerant oil in the compression chamber on initial start-up of the engine.

📋 Procedure

  1. Switch off ignition.
  2. Discharge refrigerant circuit Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a87Refrigerant circuit (Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a; Refrigerant circuit; Working with the air conditioner service station). [Note: Depending on the position of the service connection at the refrigerant line and the vehicle version, it may be necessary to remove the additional reinforcement for the body brace (left-side) to make it possible to connect the service coupling of the air conditioner service station (e.g. on the Audi Q5) Running gear, axles, steering40Suspension strut, upper links; Exploded view - suspension strut, upper links and Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a87Refrigerant circuit (Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a; Refrigerant circuit; Working with the air conditioner service station).]
  3. Remove noise insulation (front) General body repairs, exterior66Noise insulation; Exploded view - noise insulation.
  4. Detach refrigerant lines from air conditioner compressor . [Note: The sequence differs depending on the engine and the power steering pump. Depending on the version of the power steering pump, it may be necessary to detach the air conditioner compressor from the bracket in order to be able to detach the refrigerant lines. The power steering pump is only fitted on vehicles without electromechanical power steering Running gear, axles, steering48Hydraulic power steering; Exploded view - power steering pump.Depending on the engine (petrol or diesel), the air conditioner compressor must be removed from the top or bottom. If the air conditioner compressor is removed from the top, it may be necessary to unfasten the coolant expansion tank from the vehicle and release the coolant lines from the brackets (do not open coolant circuit) and swivel them to the side slightly Engine, mechanics19Coolant pipes.]
  5. Detach air conditioner compressor from bracket . [Note: When it is removed, the air conditioner compressor contains an indeterminate amount of refrigerant oil. For this reason it is important to observe the notes on renewing the compressor Air conditioner with refrigerant R134a87Renewing components of refrigerant circuit.]

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
