ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure

  1. Switch off ignition.
  2. Remove noise insulation (front) General body repairs, exterior66Noise insulation; Exploded view - noise insulation.
  3. Mark direction of poly V-belt (A)13Cylinder block (pulley end); Removing and installing poly V-belt.
  4. To slacken off poly V-belt, swivel tensioner with socket Torx T 60T40087 in direction of (arrow)13Cylinder block (pulley end); Removing and installing poly V-belt.
  5. Detach poly V-belt from poly V-belt pulley of air conditioner compressor and slacken off tensioner 13Cylinder block (pulley end); Removing and installing poly V-belt.

  1. On left side, unscrew bolt (1), unscrew nut (3) and detach longitudinal strut (2).
  2. If fitted, detach power steering pump from bracket (not always necessary on vehicles with a flexible pressure pipe to power steering pump) (Running gear, axles, steering48Hydraulic power steering; Removing and installing power steering pump), swivel to side and attach to engine, e.g. with a piece of wire. [Note: When doing so, take care not to bend, kink or strain the pipes leading to the power steering pump. There are different versions of the pressure pipe to the power steering pump (rigid or flexible). The pressure pipe and the power steering pump are only fitted on vehicles without electromechanical power steering Running gear, axles, steering48Hydraulic power steering; Exploded view - power steering pump.]
  3. Unplug electrical connector (A).
  4. Unscrew bolts (B) for air conditioner compressor.
  5. Detach air conditioner compressor and swivel it as far as possible away from engine without kinking or straining refrigerant hoses.
  6. Attach air conditioner compressor to vehicle (e.g. with a piece of wire) so that refrigerant hoses are not kinked or strained. [Note: If the air conditioner compressor cannot be swivelled far enough away from the engine, the compressor must be removed completely .Depending on the engine version it may be necessary to additionally unfasten the lock carrier from the vehicle and pull it forwards slightly (to create some space) General body repairs, exterior50Lock carrier; Performing service position and resetting.]
  7. ⚠ Risk of damage to refrigerant lines and hoses.Do not stretch, kink or bend refrigerant lines and hoses. — Before securing the air conditioner compressor, check the position of both dowel sleeves (A) in the bracket or the compressor (B). [Note: There are different versions of the dowel sleeves (A) (different length); for correct version refer to Electronic parts catalogue.Make sure that bushes (A) are correctly positioned and contact surfaces are clean. Incorrectly fitted bushes or dirty/damaged contact surfaces (C) at the bracket or air conditioner compressor could lead to misalignment between the compressor and engine. After a period of operation, misalignment can cause damage to the poly V-belt or the air conditioner compressor.]
  8. Fit bolts (A), (B) or (C).
  9. ⚠ Different bolts and different tightening torques (depending on engine and production period)Ensure correct allocation Electronic parts catalogue.Use aluminium bolts only once; they must always be renewed (in this case: item (A)).Tightening torque for aluminium bolts (in this case item (A)): 8 Nm +180°Tightening torque for steel bolts (in this case (B) and (C)): 25 Nm — Tighten bolts (arrows). — 8 Nm (5.9 lb-ft) + 180°
  10. Plug in electrical connector (1) at air conditioner compressor regulating valve N280.
  11. Position poly V-belt on poly V-belt pulley 13Cylinder block (pulley end); Removing and installing poly V-belt. [Note: After attaching air conditioner compressor, check routing of refrigerant lines. They must be inserted in the brackets provided (if fitted, depends on engine).Check that refrigerant lines and corresponding brackets have adequate clearance to other components, ensuring sufficient distance between belt, bracket and pulley.]
  12. Interrogate event memory of operating and display unit (Climatronic control unit J255) and erase any faults displayed Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 ("Guided Fault Finding").

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
