Measuring dimensions for inserting rollover bars in body — AUDI
Measuring dimensions for inserting rollover bars in body on Audi: 23 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi A5 Cabriolet (8F)
- Special tools named: VAS 6350/2
Don't miss
- For greater clarity, the installation position is shown with the convertible roof removed.
- To align the rollover bars, you must determine a reference dimension at the rear lid.
- Position tape measure at front edge (arrow) of rear lid and mark dimension (a).
- Mark dimension (b) measured from line perpendicular to dimension (a) at front edge of rear lid.
- The felt-tip dot at the front edge of the rear lid is the reference point for the following measurement.
📋 Procedure
- ⚠ Observe safety regulations for working on Automatic Rollover Support System . — Disconnect battery earth wire Electrical system27Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery.
- Insert rollover bars in body.
- Screw in bolts for rollover bars by hand.
- Mask areas on left and right of rollover bars on side panels with fabric tape (items 1 and 3).
- Position metal straight edge (2) at rear of rollover bars (left and right), as shown in illustration. [Note: For greater clarity, the installation position is shown with the convertible roof removed.]
- Position spacing laserVAS 6350/2 at metal straight edge (1) as shown and measure distance (a) between side wall and aluminium carrier (2) of Automatic Rollover Support System; for instructions on how to use VAS 6350/2, refer to operating instructions.
- To avoid incorrect measurements, the following points must be ensured:
- Repeat measurement on opposite side of vehicle.
- Align rollover bars accordingly. [Note: To align the rollover bars, you must determine a reference dimension at the rear lid.]
- Mask area you are working on on rear lid with fabric tape (1) to protect paintwork.
- Position tape measure at front edge (arrow) of rear lid and mark dimension (a).
- Mark dimension (b) measured from line perpendicular to dimension (a) at front edge of rear lid.
- Mark intersection point between dimension (b) and front edge of rear lid with a felt-tip pen (arrow). [Note: The felt-tip dot at the front edge of the rear lid is the reference point for the following measurement.]
- Mark reference point on opposite side of vehicle in same way.
- Set spacing laserVAS 6350/2 so that its rear edge is used as a reference surface for measuring operating instructions.
- Position spacing laserVAS 6350/2 on aluminium carrier of rollover support so that is is straight and makes full contact with carrier, as shown in illustration.
- Measure distance to reference point (felt-tip dot) (arrow) at front edge (dimension (c)).
- Repeat measurement on opposite side of vehicle.
- Align rollover bars accordingly.
- If the rollover bars are removed following an accident, renew the securing bolts for the rollover bars.
- Tighten bolts for rollover bars.
- ⚠ There must not be anyone in the vicinity of the rollover bars (safety distance approx. 1 m) when connecting the battery. — Connect battery earth wire Electrical system27Battery; Disconnecting and connecting battery.
- After performing repairs to the rollover bars and after all work has been completed (also applies for new part), ALWAYS perform a final control diagnosis in the "“Guided Functions”".

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
