Installing and adjusting front door — AUDI
Installing and adjusting front door on Audi: 11 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what to check after.
Fitting and adjusting a front door on the Audi with platform code 9U7 is done in two phases: first the hinges are set on the body, then the door is hung on temporary bolts and shimmed until the gaps are right. The door pins are only removed from the hinges when a new door is going on. The hinge bolts on the vehicle side are fitted loosely, the hinges are aligned by positioning the door, and then tightened. Two M8 temporary bolts, turned down slightly in diameter so they pass through the hinge, hold the door while shims (2) set its position and the striker is adjusted. Once the fit is correct, the temporary bolts come out, the bolts are tightened to 70 Nm and the door pins and door arrester pin go in.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the door pins if fitting a new door, fit the vehicle-side hinge bolts loosely, align the hinges and tighten. Hang the door on two M8 temporary bolts and adjust its position with shims and the striker pin. Remove the temporary bolts, tighten bolts (1) to 70 Nm, fit the door pins and secure the arrester pin with its hexagon nut.
Fits: platform code 9U7
Don't miss
- Reduce the diameter of the two M8 temporary bolts slightly so they fit into the hinge.
- Set door position with shims (2) before final tightening.
- Tighten bolts (1) to 70 Nm once the door sits correctly.
- Adjust the striker pin after the door position is set, not before.
- Fit the door arrester pin and its hexagon nut last.

🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 70 Nm (52 lb-ft) | Tighten bolts (1 |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.
📋 Procedure
- Remove door pin from hinges. (Only when installing a new door).
- Install bolts (1) loosely in upper and lower hinge parts (vehicle side).
- Align door hinges by positioning the door.
- Tighten bolts (1).
- Install door using two M8 temporary bolts and check position of door. [Note: Diameter of temporary bolts must be reduced slightly to ensure they fit into hinge.]
- Adjust position of door using shims (2).
- Adjust striker pin if necessary.
- Remove temporary bolts once door is positioned correctly.
- Tighten bolts (1). Specified torque: 70 Nm. — 70 Nm (52 lb-ft)
- Position door and install door pins.
- Install pin (2) of door arrester, install hexagon nut (1) and tighten nut.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
