II - Adjusting reverse gear brake -B1- - exploded view on Audi: 10 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
- Special tools named: feeler gauge
- Also covered elsewhere: Assembling planetary gearbox
📋 Procedure
- For adjustment of reverse gear brake -B1- install components without shims () in gearbox housing (see the separate procedure).
- Press piston into free-wheel as far as stop.
- Place straightedge (A) on outer race of free-wheel and hold in position (arrows).
- Measure to inner edge of piston with depth gauge (B).
- Place straightedge (A) on thrust plateVW 402.
- Use thrust plateVW 402 to compress clutch pack in direction of arrow and measure thickness of clutch pack with depth gauge (B).
- Determine shim(s) according to table (value given in the factory table, not available here). Part Nos. Electronic parts catalogue
- After determining shim for B1 carry out check measurement.
- Fit components as far as free-wheel and secure with circlip ⇒ Assembling planetary gearbox (see the separate procedure).
- Use feeler gauge (A) to measure play between plates (accessible through recess next to valve body flange).

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
