Exploded view - cylinder head (1.8 ltr. engine) — AUDI

Exploded view - cylinder head (1.8 ltr. engine) on Audi: 10 steps, 3 torque figures, engines CABA, CABB, CABD, CADA.

This page collects the cylinder head fastening data for the 1.8 ltr. TFSI engines in the Audi A4 (8K, B8 2007–2015), A5 (8T, 2007–2016) and A5 Cabriolet (8F), engine codes as listed below. It covers the crankcase breather system bolts, which are tightened in sequence to 11 Nm, the cylinder head bolts, slackened and tightened in their own sequence, and a set of smaller bolts that are pre-tightened before an angle turn. The head bolts go to 40 Nm with a torque wrench and then two further 90° turns with a rigid wrench. Finally the head face is checked for distortion with a straight edge and feeler gauge at several points. The sequences and the angle stages are what decide whether the head seals.

🧭 Before you start

Slacken the head bolts in sequence, remove the head and check it for distortion with a straight edge and feeler gauge. On fitting, tighten the head bolts in sequence to 40 Nm, then 90° and a further 90°. Pre-tighten the smaller bolts to 8 Nm and turn them 90° further, and tighten the crankcase breather bolts in sequence to 11 Nm.

Fits: Audi A5 Cabriolet (8F), Audi A5 (8T, 2007–2016), Audi A4 B8 (8K, 2007–2015)

  • Special tools named: torque wrench, feeler gauge

Don't miss

  • Follow the numbered sequence for both slackening and tightening the head bolts.
  • Head bolts: 40 Nm, then 90°, then another 90° with a rigid wrench.
  • Smaller bolts: 8 Nm then 90° further.
  • Crankcase breather bolts go to 11 Nm in their sequence.
  • Measure the head for distortion at several points before refitting it.
  • Angle-tightened head bolts are normally renewed, as general practice.

🔩 Torque settings

Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.

TorqueFastener / step

40 Nm (30 lb-ft)Tighten with torque wrench initially
8 Nm (5.9 lb-ft)Pre-tighten bolts (arrows)

ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
