Draining and filling with coolant: Audi 2.5 TDI (ACV, AHY, AJT, AUF, …)
Step-by-step draining and filling with coolant for the Audi 2.5 TDI: 15 steps, 1 torque figure. What to remove, what to tighten and to how many Nm, what.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: platform codes 70A, 70B, 70C, 70E, 70H, 70J, 70K, 70L, 70M, 7DA, 7DB, 7DC, 7DE, 7DH, 7DJ, 7DK, 7DL, 7DM
- Opens: coolant
Don't miss
- Observe regulations for disposal!
- Fill with coolant slowly up to max. mark on expansion tank (filling time approx. 5 minutes)
- When the engine is at normal operating temperature, the coolant level must be on the max. mark and between the min. and max. marks when the engine is cold.
🔩 Torque settings
Values can differ between engine variants — check the code stamped on your block.
| Torque | Fastener / step |
|---|---|
| 10 Nm (7.4 lb-ft) | Screw drain plug in again and tighten |
ℹ️ Always cross-check the exact figure against your vehicle's factory manual before final tightening — a wrong torque can damage the engine. These values are extracted from workshop data and may not cover every variant or revision.

📋 Procedure
- Open filler cap on coolant expansion tank
- Remove noise insulation tray 50.
- Drain coolant: [Note: Observe regulations for disposal!]
- Screw drain plug in again and tighten to 10 Nm [Note: Only G 12, G 12 plus according to "“TL VW 774 F”" or G 12 plus-plus according to "“TL VW 774 G”" may be used as coolant additive; distinguishing feature: Purple colourG 12, G 12 plus or G 12 plus-plus and coolant additives marked conforming to "“TL VW 774 F”" or "“TL VW 774 G”" prevent frost and corrosion damage, scaling and also raise boiling point of coolant. Therefore, the cooling system must be filled all year round with frost and corrosion protection additives.G 12, G 12 plus or G 12 plus-plus purple (according to "“TL VW 774 F”" or "“TL VW 774 G”" may be mixed with the previous G 12 coolant additives!Because of its higher boiling point, the coolant improves engine reliability under heavy loads, particularly in countries with tropical climates.Frost protection is required down to about -25°C (in countries with arctic climate: Down to about -35°C).The coolant concentration must not be reduced by adding water even in warmer seasons and in warmer countries. The coolant additive concentration must be at least 40%.If, due to climatic reasons, greater frost protection is required, the amount of G 12, G 12 plus or G 12 plus-plus can be increased, but only up to 60% (frost protection to about -40°C). Otherwise frost protection and cooling effectiveness are reduced again. If radiator, heat exchanger, cylinder head or cylinder head gasket are renewed, do not reuse old coolant.] — 10 Nm (7.4 lb-ft)
- Screw the adapterV.A.G 1274/3A+4A appropriate to this vehicle onto the expansion tank.
- Fill coolant circuit using cooling system charge unitVAS 6096operating instructions for cooling system charge unitVAS 6096.
- Open bleeder screw in coolant hose to heat exchanger
- Press upper radiator hose downwards
- Close bleeder screw
- Fill with coolant slowly up to max. mark on expansion tank (filling time approx. 5 minutes)
- Start engine, run for max. 2 minutes at approx. 1500 rpm and top up coolant to overflow hole on expansion tank with engine running
- Fit expansion tank cap.
- Run engine until fan cuts in
- Check coolant level and top up if necessary
- When the engine is at normal operating temperature, the coolant level must be on the max. mark and between the min. and max. marks when the engine is cold.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
