Draining and filling coolant, Sharan — VW

Draining and filling coolant, Sharan on VW: 37 steps, engines CUVA, CUVC, CUVE, CUWA. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Workshop procedure for VW — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

37 steps 4 engine codes

🧭 Before you start

Fits: VW Tiguan I (5N, 2007–2016), VW CC (358, 2012–2017), VW Sharan II / SEAT Alhambra (7N, 2010–)

  • Opens: coolant
  • Special tools named: VAS 6096, V.A.G 1274/8

Don't miss

  • Risk of damage to the engine due to insufficiently filled/bled cooling system.Always bleed cooling system with after it has been filled. — Connect coolant hoses .
  • Exhaust air takes a slight quantity of coolant along with it; this should be collected.
  • If the needle does not reach the green zone, repeat the process. If vacuum drops, cooling system must be checked for leaks.
  • Hose connections and air intake pipes/hoses must be free of oil and grease when installing.

📋 Procedure

  1. Carefully open filler cap (1) on coolant expansion tank (2) in (direction of arrow).
  2. ⚠ When the engine is warm, the cooling system is under pressure.Steam or hot coolant can escape – risk of scalding.Cover filler cap on expansion tank with a cloth and open carefully to dissipate pressure. — Remove noise insulation General body repairs, exterior66Noise insulation; Assembly overview - noise insulation.
  3. Set drip tray for workshop hoistVAS 6208 underneath.
  4. Lift retaining clips (1) and (2).
  5. Remove lower right coolant hoses from water radiator for charge air cooling circuit.

  1. Drain coolant.
  2. Loosen hose clip (arrow).
  3. Remove coolant hose to auxiliary pump for heating V488 at bottom, and drain coolant.
  4. Lift retaining clip (1), and remove lower right coolant hose from radiator.
  5. Drain coolant. [Note: The water used in the coolant mixture has a great influence on its effectiveness. Because the water quality differs from country to country and even region to region, the quality of the water to be used has been defined. Distilled water fulfils all requirements. For this reason, we recommend using distilled water when mixing coolant for topping up or replacing coolant.Use only coolant additives which conform with the Electronic Parts Catalogue. Other coolant additives may reduce corrosion protection substantially. The resulting damage could lead to loss of coolant and subsequent severe damage to the engine. The correct coolant solution ratio helps prevent damage from freezing and corrosion as well as scaling. Moreover, the boiling temperature is raised. Therefore, the cooling system must be filled all year round with coolant additive.Because of its higher boiling point, the coolant improves engine reliability under heavy loads, particularly in countries with tropical climates.ONLY refractometer T10007A may be used for determining current anti-freeze value.Frost protection must be guaranteed down to -25°C as a minimum and, in countries with arctic conditions, down to approx. -36°C. Increasing the frost protection is permissible only if climatic conditions require stronger frost protection. It may, however, only be increased to a maximum of -48°C. Otherwise, the cooling effect of the coolant will be impaired. The coolant concentration must not be reduced by adding water even in warmer seasons and in warmer countries. Frost protection must be guaranteed down to at least -25°C.Read off the frost protection value from the scale for the coolant additive being used. The temperature read off the refractometer T10007A equates to the »ice flocculation point«. Ice crystals can start forming in the coolant below this temperature.Do not reuse old coolant.Use only a water / coolant additive mixture as a slip agent for coolant hoses.]
  6. ⚠ Risk of damage to the engine due to insufficiently filled/bled cooling system.Always bleed cooling system with after it has been filled. — Connect coolant hoses .
  7. Fill coolant reservoir of VAS 6096 with at least 8 litres of pre-mixed coolant in correct mixture ratio:
  8. Do not reuse old coolant.
  9. Screw adapter for cooling system testerV.A.G 1274/8 onto coolant expansion tank.
  10. Mount cooling system charge unitVAS 6096 on adapter V.A.G 1274/8.
  11. Feed vent hose (1) into a small container (2). [Note: Exhaust air takes a slight quantity of coolant along with it; this should be collected.]
  12. Close valves (A) and (B) (turn lever transverse to direction of flow to do this).
  13. Connect hose (3) to compressed air.
  14. Open valve (B); turn lever in direction of flow to do this.
  15. Also briefly open valve (A) (turn lever in direction of flow to do this) so that hose on VAS 6096 coolant reservoir fills with coolant.
  16. Close valve (A) again.
  17. Leave valve (B) open for a further 2 minutes.
  18. Close valve (B). [Note: If the needle does not reach the green zone, repeat the process. If vacuum drops, cooling system must be checked for leaks.]
  19. Pull off compressed air hose.
  20. Open valve (A).
  21. Remove cooling system charge unitVAS 6096 from coolant expansion tank.
  22. Fill coolant up to max. mark. [Note: Hose connections and air intake pipes/hoses must be free of oil and grease when installing.]
  23. Install noise insulation General body repairs, exterior66Noise insulation; Assembly overview - noise insulation.
  24. On vehicles with auxiliary heater, switch on auxiliary heater for about 30 seconds.
  25. Set temperature regulator to "“HI”".
  26. Switch off air conditioner compressor (press AC button).
  27. Connect vehicle diagnostic tester.
  28. Switch on ignition and select the following menu options on vehicle diagnostic tester:
  29. Follow instructions shown on vehicle diagnostic tester.
  30. Allow engine to cool down.
  31. Check coolant level.
  32. If necessary, fill more coolant.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
