Checking restrictor in fuel return line — AUDI
Checking restrictor in fuel return line on Audi: 12 steps, engines BUG, BUN, CAMA, CAMB. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.
Common-rail TDI engines on the platform codes listed below return injector leak-off fuel through a restrictor that holds back-pressure in the return line, and this check measures that pressure at cylinder 1. Cleanliness is everything: remove the engine cover, then clean and dry the return line connection on cylinder 1 before touching it and cover it with a cloth. Press the tabs down and lift the centre piece to free it, keeping dirt out of both the line and the injector port. The return system tester is fitted between injector and return line, the engine started and the pressure read. On reassembly the O-ring is renewed and oiled, the connector pushed on until it clicks, the fault memory cleared, and the system bled and leak-checked.
🧭 Before you start
Remove the engine cover, clean and dry the cylinder 1 return line connection, and release it with no dirt entering. Fit the return system tester between injector and line, run the engine and read the pressure. Refit with a new, oiled O-ring until it engages audibly, erase the event memory, bleed the fuel system and check for leaks.
Fits: Audi Q7 (4L, 2005–2015)
Don't miss
- Clean and dry the cylinder 1 return connection before releasing it.

- Connect tester for fuel return systemVAS 6330 between return line connection on injector and return line.
- Start engine.
- Check pressure indicated on tester.
- Renew O-ring for return line connection. [Note: Lubricate all seals with engine oil or assembly oil before installing.]
- Push the return line connection carefully over the new seal and onto the injector. The catch should engage audibly. Then press release pin down carefully.

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
