VAS 5051 with VAS 5051/1 and VAS 5051/2
or
V.A.G 1551 with V.A.G 1551/1
Test requirements:
Coolant temperature at least 80 °C
Test sequence
Attention:
Always attach testers and measuring instruments to back seat and have them operated from there by a second person.
If testers and measuring instruments were to be operated from front passenger's seat, person sitting there could suffer injury in the event of an accident due to triggering of front passenger's airbag.
Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or fault reader V.A.G 1551 and enter address word "01" to select the engine electronics control unit.-- The engine must be idling:

Note · Readout 1 = camshaft timing control ON
Notes:
If a value between 3.0 °CA and 15.0 °CA is displayed during the test drive, the electric camshaft adjustment valve is switching the oil pressure correctly to the mechanical camshaft adjuster, but the mechanical camshaft adjuster is unable to reach its final position (e.g. due to a jam).

Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
