11 steps

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi Q7 (4L, 2005–2015)

  • Special tools named: VAS 5051

📋 Procedure

  1. All fuses OK as per current flow diagram
  2. BatteryA adequately charged
  3. Event recorder interrogated and any faults displayed eliminated "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 [Note: As of Model Year 2009 and depending on the applicable emissions standard, certain vehicles with 6-cyl. TDI engine and no "“auxiliary heater”" as optional extra will be fitted with a supplementary air heater element Z35 instead of a fuel-driven supplementary heater (gradual introduction with the corresponding engine in Model Year 2009) .In Model Year 2008, modified auxiliary and supplementary heaters are gradually being introduced as of 01.2008 (optimised starting sequence, different switching temperatures, different burner element for diesel version) .The "“Electrical check”" function is not described in this Workshop Manual. This Workshop Manual only gives a brief outline of the checking of individual components.Implement the "“Electrical check”" function as described in the guided fault-finding routine "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.]
  4. Switch off ignition and auxiliary/supplementary heater.
  5. Remove the front left wheel housing liner General body repairs, exterior63.

  1. Drill out the shear bolts (A) with a dia. 3.0 mm bit.
  2. Screw a commercially available left-hand removal tool for example (size -3-) into the hole of the shear bolts (A) and unfasten the bolts.
  3. Remove the cover (B).
  4. Release the 6-pin connector (B) by pressing it towards the component, release the catch whilst pressing the connector (e.g. by pulling tab) and unplug the connector.
  5. Wait 2 seconds, then release the 2-pin connector (A) by pressing it towards the component, release the catch whilst pressing the connector (e.g. by pulling tab) and unplug the connector. [Note: Observe the correct sequence when unplugging the connectors. Unplug the 6-pin connector first, wait 2 seconds and then unplug the 2-pin connector.Unplugging the 2-pin connector first could result in a fault being stored in the supplementary heater control unit J364, which can then only be erased after unplugging the connectors and plugging them in again in the correct sequence. On connection, plug in the 2-pin connector first, wait 2 seconds and then plug in the 6-pin connector.]
  6. Perform the electrical checks as specified in the "“Guided fault-finding routine”""Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
