Checking heating output - vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner — AUDI

Checking heating output - vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner on Audi: 22 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.

22 steps

🧭 Before you start

Fits: Audi A1 (8X, 2010–2018)

  • Opens: coolant

Don't miss

  • Flexible temperature adjustment shaft and activation of temperature flap (flap must reach both end stops) .

📋 Procedure

  1. Close bonnet, doors, windows and sunroof.
  2. Open all dash panel vents.
  3. Start the engine and make the following settings on the operating unit:
  4. With the engine running, operate the air conditioner for several minutes at maximum cooling output.
  5. Set rotary control (3) for air distribution to "“Dash panel vents”".

  1. Set rotary control (2) for fresh air blower to speed "“4”".
  2. Use a thermometer to measure temperature of air emerging from dash panel vents (left and right).
  3. Set highest possible temperature (rotary temperature control to "“warm”" stop).
  4. Measure temperature of air emerging from dash panel vents (left and right) using a thermometer. [Note: At ambient temperatures below 10 °C, the temperature of the air emerging from the dash panel vents (left and right) will not always be higher than 45 °C if the setting "“maximum fresh air blower speed, engine idling”" is selected. The engine speed must therefore be increased to 1500 rpm when performing this test at low ambient temperatures.]
  5. Set lowest possible temperature (rotary temperature control to "“cold”" stop).
  6. Measure temperature of air emerging from dash panel vents (left and right) using a thermometer.
  7. Air conditioner cooling output .
  8. Coolant circuit properly bled Engine, mechanics19Cooling system/coolant; Draining and filling cooling system.
  9. Connections between heat exchanger and coolant circuit Engine, mechanics19Cooling system/coolant; Connection diagram - coolant hoses.
  10. Flexible temperature adjustment shaft and activation of temperature flap (flap must reach both end stops) .
  11. Foam seal at heat exchanger .
  12. Operation of temperature flaps in air distribution housing Removing and installing air distribution housing
  13. Check thermostat (engine coolant may not become properly warm if thermostat is defective) Engine, mechanics19.
  14. Check operation of temperature flaps in air distribution housing Removing and installing air distribution housing.
  15. Increase engine speed to approx. 1500 rpm and check temperature again.
  16. Check thermostat (engine coolant may not become properly warm if thermostat is defective) Engine, mechanics19Coolant pump/thermostat assembly; Checking thermostat.
  17. Check coolant pump Engine, mechanics19Coolant pump/thermostat assembly; Exploded view - coolant pump.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
