Checking heating output (and activation of temperature flaps) - vehicles with air conditioner — AUDI
Checking heating output (and activation of temperature flaps) - vehicles with air conditioner on Audi: 13 steps.
Workshop procedure for AUDI — the exact step sequence and torque figures, straight from real workshop data.
🧭 Before you start
Fits: Audi R8 (4S, 2015–)
Don't miss
- The indication in the rotary/pushbutton controls (2, 4, 6) and the buttons (3, 5, 7) is only visible when the ignition is switched on and goes out when the ignition is switched off.
📋 Procedure
- Close doors, bonnet, windows and rear lid.
- Open all the dash panel vents and the vents in the doors.
- Start the engine and make the following settings on the front air conditioner operating and display unit E87(1): [Note: The indication in the rotary/pushbutton controls (2, 4, 6) and the buttons (3, 5, 7) is only visible when the ignition is switched on and goes out when the ignition is switched off.]
- With the engine running, operate the air conditioner for several minutes at maximum cooling output.
- "“Read measured values”" for vent temperature senders G385 (or G386) and evaporator output temperature sender G263 in "“Guided Fault Finding”" mode (for E87). [Note: The designations and fitting locations of the temperature sensors are different. On left-hand drive vehicles, G385 is installed in the air duct under the dash panel to the vent in the left door. On right-hand drive vehicles, the front right chest vent temperature sensor G386 is installed in the air duct under the dash panel to the vent in the right door.]
- Use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the air emerging from the vent in the right door (left on vehicles with right-hand drive).
- Compare the measured values for vent temperature senders G385 (or G386) and G192 and the temperature measured using a thermometer with the measured value from the G263. [Note: Check by hand to establish whether air is actually emerging from the actuated vents. The temperature flap control motor V68 is moved between the end stops learned in the "“Basic setting”" function as a function of the set temperature in "“Guided Fault Finding”" mode (for E87).]
- "“Read measured values”" for vent temperature senders G385 (or G386) and G192.

[Note: The designations and fitting locations of the temperature sensors are different. On right-hand drive vehicles, the front right chest vent temperature sensor G386 is installed in the air duct under the dash panel to the vent in the right door. The temperature in the passenger compartment is measured via the temperature sensors (8, 9) installed in E87(1).] [Note: On vehicles without V51, set the engine speed to approx. 2000 rpm and repeat the test if necessary. If the temperature of the air increases to over 55 °C when the test is repeated with a higher engine speed, this indicates that not enough coolant is flowing through the heat exchanger for the heater. Cause: Delivery rate of engine coolant pump too low with engine idling or heating system heat exchanger not incorporated into coolant circuit as specified and 19Cooling system/coolant; Connection diagram - coolant hoses. The required heating output is not attained if insufficient heated coolant flows through the heat exchanger for the heater.]
- Set the lowest possible temperature.
- Set the lowest possible temperature on E87(1).
- "“Read measured values”" for vent temperature senders G385 (or G386) and G192.
- Use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the air emerging from the vent in the right door (left on vehicles with right-hand drive). Who makes these pages, and how
TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.
The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.
Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
Seen a figure that does not match your manual? Write to us — we correct it and note when. support@torqfix.com
