Checking power supply

Pull connector off Hall sensor.
Connect multimeter to contacts 1 (positive) and 3 (earth) to measure voltage.
Switch the ignition on.
Specification: at least 9 V

If the specification is not obtained:

With the ignition switched off, use adapter V.A.G 1598/11 to connect test box V.A.G 1598 A to connector A only of engine control unit (control unit remains disconnected) => Page
24-10
.

Check the following wires for open circuit and short to positive or earth (or short circuit to each other):

Connector / contact · Test box V.A.G 1598 A / socket
1 (positive) · 44
3 (earth) · 50

Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.

.

check function

Note:

To check the operation of the Hall sensor, unplug the 4-pin connector from the output stage and interrogate fault memory after performing functional check.

Test requirements:

Power supply of Hall sensor OK; checking => Page
28-46
.

Slide back rubber grommets on connector for Hall sensor but leave connector plugged in.
Connect voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B between receptacle 2 (Hall sensor signal) and receptacle 1 (positive).

Note:

Receptacles are numbered accordingly on the back of the connector.

Operate the starter for a few seconds.

The LED should flash briefly every second engine revolution.

If LED does not flash:

Switch off ignition.
Pull connector off Hall sensor.
With the ignition switched off, use adapter V.A.G 1598/11 to connect test box V.A.G 1598 A to connector A only of engine control unit (control unit remains disconnected) => Page
24-10
.

Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:

Connector / contact · Test box V.A.G 1598 A / socket
2 (signal) · 45

Rectify any open/short circuit as necessary.

=> "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault Finding and Fitting Locations" binder

If there are no open circuits or short circuits, reconnect engine control unit to engine wiring harness.

Connect multimeter between contacts 2 and 3 of the connector in order to measure the voltage.
Switch the ignition on.
Specification: at least 4 V

If the specification is not obtained:

Replace engine control unit => Page
24-13
.

If the specification is obtained:

Fit a new Hall sensor.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
