Checking fuel delivery rate, engine code BGU — AUDI

Checking fuel delivery rate, engine code BGU on Audi: 26 steps, engines BCA, BGU, BSE, BSF. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

Measuring fuel delivery rate on the petrol engine with code BGU, here on the Caddy III (2K) and 2C0 platform codes, is done with the pump run from a remote control rather than the engine. Fuse SB33 is pulled and remote control V.A.G 1348/3 A connected to the fuse socket through adapter cable 1348/3-3, with the second contact taped over. The return line comes off the fuel pressure regulator and adapter VAS 6550/1 sends fuel into a measuring container. After a short run to fill the filter, the pump runs for 30 seconds while battery voltage is measured, since the delivered quantity depends on voltage. If it falls short, the line is checked and the rate measured before the filter at 4 bar to pin it on the filter or the delivery unit.

🧭 Before you start

Remove the filler cap, pull fuse SB33 and connect the remote control to its socket. Disconnect the return line at the regulator, fit VAS 6550/1 into a measuring container and run the pump about 5 seconds to fill the filter. Empty the container, run the pump 30 seconds while reading battery voltage and compare the quantity. If low, check the supply line, then measure before the filter with VAS 6550 set to 4 bar; renew the filter or delivery unit as indicated and bleed the system.

Fits: VW Caddy III (2K, 2004–2015); platform code 2C0

  • Special tools named: V.A.G 1348/3A
  • Renewed: fuel filter, fuel delivery unit

Don't miss

  • Tape off the second contact of adapter cable V.A.G 1348/3-3 to avoid a short.
  • Check fuel pressure first; delivery rate is measured at 4 bar.
  • Measure battery voltage during the 30-second run; delivery depends on it.
  • Release line pressure under a cloth and wear eye protection.
  • Don't move the shut-off tap once 4 bar is set.

📋 Procedure

  1. Remove cap from fuel filler neck.
  2. Open cover of relay and fuse holder of engine compartment electronics box.
  3. Pull fuse SB33 out of socket F33 of fuse holder.
  4. Connect remote controlV.A.G 1348/3 A with adapter cableV.A.G 1348/3-3 to right terminal of fuse socket F33.
  5. Tape off 2nd connector contact of the adapter cableV.A.G 1348/3-3 with insulating tape (arrow) to prevent short circuits.

  1. Connect crocodile clip to vehicle battery (+). [Note: Delivery rate of fuel pump must be measured at 4 bar. Check fuel pressure before measuring fuel delivery rate 24Checking fuel pressure regulator and holding pressure, engine code BGU.]
  2. ⚠ Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid eye injuries and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection. — Pull the return line (1) off the fuel pressure regulator. [Note: Press in securing ring to release fuel line.]
  3. Connect adapterVAS 6550/1 to fuel pressure regulator. Hold end of adapter in measuring container.
  4. Operate remote control V.A.G 1348/3A for approx. 5 seconds to fill fuel filter.
  5. Drain measuring container.
  6. The delivery rate of the fuel pump depends on the voltage. Therefore connect the multimeter to the battery.
  7. Operate remote control for 30 seconds and simultaneously measure battery voltage.
  8. Compare delivered quantity of fuel with specification.
  9. Check supply line to filter for possible restrictions (kinks) or blockages.
  10. Check fuel delivery rate before fuel filter as follows:
  11. ⚠ Fuel supply line is pressurised. Wear eye protection and protective clothing to avoid eye injuries and skin contact. Before loosening hose connections, wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection. — Pull fuel supply line (arrow) off fuel filter.
  12. Connect pressure testerVAS 6550 to fuel supply line with adapterVAS 6550/1. Hold adapterVAS 6550/2 in a measuring container.
  13. Make sure that drain tap is closed and shut-off taps are open.
  14. Operate remote controlV.A.G 1348/3A. Then slowly close shut-off tap (arrow) until a pressure of 4 bar is displayed on pressure gauge. From this point on do not move position of shut-off tap.
  15. Drain measuring container.
  16. Operate the remote control again for 30 seconds. Compare the fuel delivery rate with the first measurement.
  17. Renew fuel filter.
  18. Remove fuel delivery unit and check filter strainer for dirt.
  19. Renew fuel delivery unit .
  20. Reconnect all disconnected fuel lines.
  21. Bleeding fuel system .

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
