Checking delivery pressure of vane pump - Vehicles with 5-cyl. engine — AUDI

Checking delivery pressure of vane pump - Vehicles with 5-cyl. engine on Audi: 11 steps. What to remove, in what order, and what to check after.

This is the vane pump pressure check on 5-cylinder cars carrying the 4A platform code. It is short and direct: the suction and return pipes are clamped, the expansion hose is unscrewed from the pump, and the tester adapter screws in where the banjo bolt was, with a new seal on it. The gauge hose goes on the adapter, the shut-off valve is closed with the lever to the left, the hose clamp is removed and the reservoir topped up before the engine is started. Afterwards the hydraulic level is checked, the system checked for leaks and the steering bled. The outcome depends on a sealed adapter joint and on keeping the measuring time short so the pump is not overheated against a closed valve.

11 steps

🧭 Before you start

Clamp the suction and return pipes, unscrew the expansion hose and screw the adapter with seal into the pump in place of the banjo bolt. Connect the gauge hose, close the shut-off valve, remove the clamp and top up the reservoir, then start the engine and take the reading. Finish by checking the fluid level, checking for leaks and bleeding the steering system.

Fits: platform code 4A

  • Special tools named: 3094, V.A.G 1402

Don't miss

  • Fit seal N 013 844 4 on the adapter before screwing it into the pump.
  • Close the shut-off valve with the lever to the left before starting.
  • Remove the hose clamp and top up the reservoir before the engine runs.
  • Bleed the steering system and check for leaks once the test hardware is off.
  • As general practice, keep the valve closed only briefly to avoid overheating the pump.

Who makes these pages, and how

TorqFix was built by a mechanic — after a 2,700 km drive with five roadside repairs that no diagnostic tool could explain.

The figures on this page come from manufacturer workshop documentation and are shown as they are. The page is assembled automatically from that data — it is not written by an AI. The AI works in the chat, where it answers for your specific car. It writes nothing here.

Variants of the same model differ. Cross-check torque against the factory manual for your engine before final tightening.
